Anyone can tell that this is an issue that should have been addressed more aggres sively to our administration. Now, because of apathy and lack of concern by our own students and administration, the numbers for minorities have been steadily decreasing. The questions of why and what can we do about it should be addressed. There have also been questions concern ing the minority grants that I feel should be further investigated. But because we, as mi norities, aren’t as equally represented at UNCW as to the state, let alone New Hanover County, we simply don’t have the power in numbers to make changes. admissions, financial aid, and right down to certain professors. When my concerns were taken to a higher level, it seemed as though nothing could be done and nothing was done.. .if my concerns were even paid atten tion to. Yes, it is true that some African Americans do want to attend historically black colleges and others want to get out of Wilmington, but what about those students who make UNCW their home and yet it still doesn’t feel like home because of subtle things like that of which 1 have experienced? 1 hope that people will attend the ‘Race Dialogue’ that the NAACP will host regard ing diversity issues. There, we can all speak on our opinions and come up with better ways to promote diversity and any concerns that students have.
