the Seahawk I Intramurals I October 28, 2004 Defense propels Gitrdone to title Brant Wilkerson-New Staff Writer Without any computer ratings or controver sy, UNCW”s flag football champion has been crowned. Gitrdone captured the men’s 7-on-7 flag football championship, winning the 17-team play off. They cruised to a 20-0 victory over the highly touted Fighting Rainbows. The season’s theme of parity continued into the playoffs, with pre-season favorite Bad Boys fall ing to upstart Sig Ep Pd. One of three undefeated Players for Gitrdone pose after (ggj^s Dehavens also fell in the first round to the Fighting Rainbows. The winning the 7 on 7 men's intra- i^gjjjbows’record of 3-2 reflected the competition in their division, having mural nag football tournament. The Fugitives came out strong, defeating Skillz that Killz 39-3 in their opener. They continued their high scoring ways with a 30-19 victory over the appropriately named Undefeated, who were 5-0 in the regular season. This set up one of the final four matchups, with the Fighting Rainbows, who defeated the Growler Prowlers 34-20 to get to the semifinals. On the other side, Sig Ep Pd’s defense was solid, not surrendering anj points in their opening two games. They outscored their opponents 27-0. Gitrdone took care of Kappa Alpha in the first round and then shocked tk Beach Bums in a last second comeback for a 20-19 victory to set up theu semifinal match-up with Sig Ep Pd. In the semifinal game, the defense was strong for Gitrdone as they won 20-6 over Sig Ep Pd. The Fighting Rainbows beat the Fugitives in the othei semifinal 13-7. As common wisdom goes, defense wins championships.
