While To Deliver Principle Address Thursday Dr. Groodrich Ck)ok White, Chancellor of EJmory Universi ty, will be the principle speak er Thursday, April 12, for the Inauguration of Ansley Moore, who will be instcilled as the first President of St. Andrews Pres byterian College. Dr. White will keynote the se ries of events leading to the installment of Dr. Moore. The events will include luncheons; a Symposium; Christianity, Cul ture, and the Twenty-First Cen tury; as well as the inaugura tion. Dr. White was born Nov. 13, 1889 in the small town of Griff- rin, Georgia. He completed his undergraduate program at Em ory University located in Ox ford, Georgia. After receiving his M.A. degree from Columbia University and his Ph.D. from the University of Ciiicago, Dr. White went on to obtain an LL.D., Litt.D. HH.D and an m.D. Dr. White began his educa tional career as a Professor of English at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Continuing his studies he became Professor of Psy chology and Education at Wes leyan College in Macon; Pro fessor of Mental and Moral Sci ence, Emory University; associ ate professor of Psychology, professor of psychology and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Emory. Later he became Dean of the Graduate School; Vice President; Presi dent and since 1957 has served as Chancellor ol Emory Uni versity. Dr. White’s list of academic accomplishments are carried ov er into the field of organiza tional achievements. Dr. White has served as: President, Unit ed 'Chapters Phi Beta Kappa; President, Assc. Georgia Col leges; President, Conference Academic Deans of Southern States; Director Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co., and numerous others. ANSLEY CUNNINGHAM MOORE First SAC President Is A Native Of Atlanta, Georgia Dr. Ansley C. Moore was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1903. In 1929 he married Mar garet Haynie; they have two children, Margaret Ansley and Sally, who are both married. Dr. Moore received his Bach elor of Philosophy Degree from Emory University and his Bach elor of Divinity Degree from Columbia Theological Seminary. He did graduate work at the University of Chicago Divinity School, Union Theological Sem- nary of Richmond, Virginia, and Union Theological Semin ary of New York. He received fihe Doctor of Divinity honorary degree from Southwestem-at- Memphis in 1944. He has held pastorates in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and in the Sixth United Presbyteri an Church of Pittsburgh, Penn sylvania. He has served in the •I : the following church positions: the midnight minister of a Pittsburgh radio station; a col umnist for the Pittsburgh Suii- Telegraph; a former member of the Board at Trustees of Agnes Scott College, Huskingum Col lege, and Columbia Theological Seminary; associate editor for Presbyterian Outlook; an ex- (Continued on 5) Dr. Ansley Cuiminghani Moore will be inaugurated as President of St. Andrews Pres byterian College in special cere monies here April 11 and 12. The inauguration ceremonies, which will climax our first year of operation, will begin on April 11 at 10:00 a.m. with an alumni meeting in the music conserva tory, followed by a noon alumni luncheon and registration. The high spot of the day wUl be a symposium o n “OhristiEmity, Culture and the 21st Century” in the C & C auditorium at 2 p.m., led by Dr. Waldo Beach of Duke University, Dr. Ruth Eckert of the University of Minnesota, Dr. Ldndsey Hobbs of St. Andrews, and Dr. Frontis Johnston of Davidson. To close the day’s activities, there will be a concert by the choral _ groups of the college at the National Guard Armory that evening. The inauguration of President Moore will take place at 10:00 p.m. on April 12, in front of the Student Center. The inau guration speaker will be Chan cellor Goodrich C. White of Em ory University at Atlanta. Pro cessional music for the occas ion will be an original number composed by Dr. Charles Var- dell, Jr. of St. Andrews faculty. GOODRICH C. WHITE DR. WALDO BEACH “Christianity, Culture and the Twenty-First Century” is the theme of the Symposium to be presented during the first day of inaugural activities, April 11, from 2-4 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Auditorium. Dr. David B. Honvk, professor of sociology at St. Andrews, will introduce the program par ticipants. An introductory state ment will also be offered by Dr, Frontis W. Johnston, sym posium moderator and dean of the faculty at Davidson Col lege. Panelists for the event in clude Dr. Lindsey N. Hobbs, head of the natural science de partment at St. Andrews, who will speak on ‘‘The Liberal Arts College and the Problem of Planning for the Future;” Dr. Ruth E. Eckert, professor of higher education at the Univer sity of Minnesota, "Short — and Long — Range Goals for the Christian College;” and Dr. Waldo Beach, professor Christ ian’Ethics at Duke, “Integrat ed Studies — A Valid Concept for Today?” Students are invited to at tend this inauguration event. Loud speakers will be set up to accommodate the expected overflow of people who will have to listen to the program from outside the auditorium. DR. FRONTIS JOHNSTO:
