PAGE FOUR THE lANCE APBII^ 8, 1962 Major Officers Chosen In Spring Elections In spring elections on March 28, over 500 students utilized their voting power in the first major voting at St. Andrews. Offices for the SGA, Honor Council, Intramural Sports Council, Christian Association, and student publications were voted upon. Inspite of two delays due to changes in nomination proce dures and an invalidation of the election which was held on March 21, interest and enthusi asm were at high point on elec tion day. A run-off was neces sary to finally decide several offices in the Honor Council, Christian Association, and for editor of the Lamp and Shield. Again great enthusiasm was shown, with students voting. To fill offices in the Student Government Association, Wayne Ballar} was chosen pres ident. Faye Hooks, vice presi dent; Carol Brooks, secretary: and Ted Goldthorpe, treasurer. Jim Bunnell was elected presi dent of the Honor Council, and Bob Gentry was chosen as sec ond Senior representative to the Honor Council. Junior class po sitions went to Charles Yeargen and Doug Maxwell. In the run off election John Redhead was chosen Sophomore representa tive. Cecil Chewiiing- was selected as president of the Intramural Sports Council and George Britt as vice president. The remain ing offices were filled by Au drey Hartsell as secretary and Don Diaz as treasurer. Chosen as officers of the Christian Association were: Mary Frances Wheeler, presi dent; Roberta Parker, vice pres ident; Bob Zeh, secretary; and Claude Andrews, treasurer. Harriett Johnston was elected editor of The Lamp and Shield, and Bill Patterson was editor of The Lance. Day students chose Ted Wil liams as president of the Day Students Association. Nanci Crowell was electer’ Student Center Board president Class meetings were callec Monday, April 3, between 4 anr 5 p.m. to elect Senators to fil’ the remaining vacancies in the SGA. The Senate is the Legislative branch of the SGA with repre sentatives from all branches of the Student Government Asso ciation. The meetings were open to nominations from the floor and vacancies were filled by open balloting. Those elected from the Fresh man class as Sophomore Sena tors are Joyce Clanton and Con nie Little. Joe Chandler was elected by the Sophomore class as Junior class Senator. The Junior class elected Lar ry Flower as Senior class Sen ator. I go back to N.Y. for two days, then on to a concert in Detroit and than an exten sive tour of the mid-west. After I complete the mid-west tour I go immediately to Europe for several concerts and then back to the U.S. to open-sortie sum mer music. festivals, ■ This will last till August,- when .1 ;plan to take a' vacation arbund the Mediterranean to see- the an cient ruins before they put tliem under water. I plan to rest till the opening of the new Philharmonic Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Samuel Barber has composed a new concerto for the occasion which I will premiere at the opening with the Boston Sym phony Orchestral - T.F. WOW!
