APRIL 17. 1962 THE LANCE PAGE THREE Freshman Feelings Inauguration n e s by Rebecca Carter If one has ever been a Fresh man in any school, he knoiws the lack of confidence instill ed in every heart during the first year on a new campus. We, St. Andrews' beginning Freshmen Class, arrived on our “treeless” campus with the same timidity and expecta tion of countless other new comers. The first night ocE our embarking on a four-year ad venture was the ihardest time; however, one -man stretched out his hand and pulled us uip from our low ebb. Since our first night that hand has con tinued reaching out to lend us the confidence we need to com plete our education. One dark December day ithis helping, loving, reassuring hand was unwillingly taken away. The man had overworked himself, and his heart, which had been so kind to others, warned him that he must slow down. Every student on cam pus prayed return of his "health, and God answered the call. Our friend was re turned to once again give out am understanding for others that can only be developed with maturity. Thursday, April 12, an in auguration took place on ithe campus. Dignitaries and educa tional leaders from all over North Carolina came to take the hand of this same man in congratulations as he became duly instaUed in the office of college president. Our hearts swelled in pride to know that President John F. Kennedy and Governor Terry Sanford ack nowledged the worth of the man we value so highly. This kind hand and heart be long to Dr. Ansley Moore. We, the Freshmen of St. Andrews, wish to congratulate him on his official inauguration as President of our fine Presby terian college. We, also, ex press appreciation to Dr. Moore for the countless aides he has given our class above and beyond the call of duty. Student Center Board Plans Talent Show The Student Center Board and the Intramural Sports Council have put out a campuswide call for all available talent to participate in a talent show to be presented Saturday night, April 28. Any individual or group wish ing to participate is invited to audition before the committee in charge of the show, this composed of Larry Fowler and Natici Crowell representing the Student Center Board, and Bunk Spann and Cecil Chew- iiing' representing the Intra mural Council. Professor Mau rice Stirewalt is lending his efforts to the committee in an advisory capacity. The committee welcomes any type of act, be it odd, unusual, or reasonably serious. Variety is the chief objective of this presentation, intended to sam ple a crosssection of all the talent on campus. Anyone interested is to con tact some member of the com mittee. Times for the auditions are to be arranged. i ■■ * * \ ■Illll >* ’it V
