FEBRUARY 10
ATHinrS FEAT
By ED BUTTERWORtH
The Knights bowling squad this
season has been progresslngly
a tougher opponent and Is now
established as the team to beat.
Starting off slowly, the squad
ran up an 8 and 8 record during
the first three weelcs of comple
tion. Since that time they have
picked up fifteen victories against
only a single defeat and now hold
first place position by a slim mar.
gin.
The success o^ f he bowlers may
lie in these two aspects; good
improvement. They have rolled
their poorest games against the
weakest teams and their bestover
top notch Charleston and Lynch,
burg.
The team has Increased Its ear.
ly season average from the mid.
830’s to the lower 850’s and is
second only to Charleston in
this respect.
This past week the Knights
rolled a record breaking 2720
set headed by lead off man Frank
Ligon with games of 208-179.213
for a composite 600 set.
On Saturday March 5, the
Knights travel to Charleston for
the annual D.I,A.C, tournament.
If the Knigl>ts can hold first
place in their final competition
match against Charleston and en.
ter the tourney as hot as In their
recent games, they will be sure
winners.
What has happened to our bas«
ketball team? They’ve set are-
cord for the '65 . ’66 season.-
two games in a row.
This does, however, set a new
light on the team outlook for the
tournament. With only three vie-
tories for the season, it is nice
to know that all three are with
in the D,I.A,C. and that only six
of our 18 losses are In competl-
tion league play.
This will place St. Andrews
into a different bracket In the
league standings and will give
them a chance to win in the o-
penlng night of the tournament,
perhaps opposing either Char,
lotte or Charleston.
A win in the opening tourna
ment game will give the Knights
a birth in the finalis on Friday
and Saturday evening.
Good luck team!
