Drill Team
To Be Formed
BY JUDI VICKNAIR
A new organization is in tne
process of making its debut on
the St. Andrews campus. The
name of the game is drill team
and the object is to boost spirit
and provide entertainment.
Since it has been brought to our
attention that many students do
not know what a drill team is
let us say that 1. Contrary to
popular opinion- guns are not
carried and 2. it is only open
to girls.
But drill team is a unified
body of girls that have several
things in common. These girls
usually have big smiles and are
sincerely friendly, they are
concerned with doing something
for the boys on the teams and
the student body—they know
how to hold their head up with
pride and aren't afraid of getting
cold.
The girls on the drill team
will practice several times
weekly in order to perfect the
routines they will perform.
Then the showswillbepresented
during the half-times at soccer
and basketball games. These
shows will consist of a com
bination of marching and danc
ing set to music. Variations on
popular themes such as the use
of pom-poms, tourches, and
flasllghts etc. will be incor
porated into these routines.
They will be performed in uni
forms displayingblue and white,
the St. Andrew’s colors. This
year's sponsor is a former St.
Andrews student, Elliott Mac-
Keithan Leake.
The next meeting will be
Monday, October 6, in the Wil
mington lounge, if interested
please come at 6:15.

day’s away contest.
The Tusculum game was only
seconds old when one of the
opposition’s halfbacks netted a
shot past a fallen Craig Hannas
and a confused Knight defense
for an early 1-0 lead.
The Knights quickly found
themselves and went on to score
11 goals while giving up not a
one the rest of the way. Knight
wing Randy Wellford tied the
game on a shot from in close
early In the first quarter after
taking a pass from forward
Ralph Nesbit.
Veteran forward John Dan

stay with a shot rifled into the
upper left corner from about
fifteen yards out shortly after
Wellford’s score.
Then It was time for the re
turn of the Golden Caterpillar
as Mr. Nesbit scored the first
of his St. Andrews single game
record total of five goals mid
way through the first quarter
giving the Knights a 3-1 edge.
St. Andrews added three more
in the second quarter as Nesbit
tallied twice withfreshman wing
Don Cooper scoring in between
after an assist from Henry

The third quarter also be

gressive Knight attack.
The fourth quarter was also
all St. Andrews as Daniel netted
his second goal of the game to
give the Knights a 9-1 lead.
Kentucky Southern transfer Don
Griffiths scored the team’s fi
nal two goals on a pair ot fine
shots. Griffiths, playing center
halfback, headed in the final goal
beautifully on a cross from one
of the wings.
Coaches Hackney and McGee

victory. Offensively Nesbit,
Cooper, Daniels, and Wellford
were very Impressive. Center
halfback Chris Johnson and
later Don Griffiths along with
veterans Thompson and Hannas
led the stingy Knights defense.
Tuesday’s victory over
Pfeiffer was truly a defensive
struggle. Neither team managed
to score in the first half of
the contest. Pfeiffer employed

Knight goalie Craig Hannas
made a fine save of a penalty
kick in the first half which
later proved vital to the S.A.
win.
All the scoring occurred in
the third quarter as Pfeiffer
tallied first on a goal similar
to Tusculum’s only score on
Saturday.
Veteran forward Bob Welch

on an early third quarter goal.
Then what proved to be the
winning score came as a corner
