Students Support The final productirai of the Highland Players’ ’74-’75 season is “Godspell,” a musical taken from the Gospel according to St. Mat thew, to be presented oi April 24-27. There will also be two performances at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on May 5. Written by John-Midiael Tebelak, with music by Stephen Schwartz, “God spell” is a jubilant celebration of the Good News. It is a release of the spirit, to be felt joyously. In brief, it ex presses the belief that the passion of Jesus Chnst was meant to instill love and joy in the hearts of people. Part down show, part min strel show, part vaudeville, eminently theatrical, “God spell” uses music, dance, mime and other devices to show how contemporary the New Testament story can be and what it is to “Love they neighbor” with joy and sim plicity. The St. Andrews productiwi is directed by Mr. John Car son (assisted by Jan Williams). Musical direction IS by SaUy Ann Morris, and dioreography by Robert Ray of Atlanta, Ga. The cast is hta.ded by Charles Ballance as Jesus, and'Bill Peterson as John the Baptist and Judas. Other disciples are played by Jo Bradbury, JacMe Brown, Jim Bumgardner, John Dodds, Helen Halsey, Beth Mclver, Johnny McNair, David Miller, Ann Robinson and Nancy Watkins. Other members of the production staff are: Summer Brock-lights, Danny Haley- stage manager, Barbara Parker-costumes, Mary Bryan Matney-props, Kim Nicol-make-up, Beth Rambo- -publicity and house manager. Performances will be in the Liberal Arts Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. Tickets and reser vations will be available from Ajff. 17. Clothes Drive HELPING OUT- St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Laurin- burg has recently established a “clothes closet” for deprived families in Scotland County. Located on Main Street, above the Sassie Lassie, the project has en joyed the support and assistance of Andrews students in its organization and operation. The local social services office refers people to the closet, as do a number of other concerned organizations. Presently, the dothes doset is in need of just about anything they can secure for several area families who have recently experienced disastrous home fires. Un needed or outgrown clothing, bedspreads, shoes, rugs, cur tains, applainces—all are welcomed. St. Andrews students interested in giving such articles can drop them off at the Office of Counseling Services in the Student Union, where there will be a large box to receive them. The readings were preceeded by an an nouncement of the poetry moderator for next year. Melissa Tuffs, who currently holds that position,announced her successor, Suzanne Hogg. “The Portland Chicken-of- Poetry” Dick Bakken reads his poetry at St. Andrews, along with poet Chuck Sullivan of Winston Salem and Joe Dudachek of Greenville at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the College Union. Bakken, author and editor of GINSBERG PORTAI^D founder of feathers magazme is m residence this semester at Thomas Jefferson College m Michigan. Bakken founded the Por tland (Oregon) Poet^ Festival three years ago. as many as five thousand citizens participate. Parades and costumes are the thing.
