In his slide presentation Professor Rogers emphasized the im portance black American Art, noting said that many con cepts and ideologies have beai formulated by blacks but credited to whites. Another feature of the weekend was an unusual fashion show managed by Miss Susan Miller and cen tered around the theme of “Walking in Rhythm.” Dak’s of Laurinbui^ donated inany of the outfits modeled, but most were originals owned by their wearers. During the dinner hour that evening students were en tertained by “Royal Funk”, a jazz and soul tend. Dinner was followed by a poetry reading by Dr. Gershon Fiawoo, a professor of English at North Carolina Central University, who discussed in his poems and in conversation his feelings toward Africa sin ce he left it to teach in America. The weekend was climaxed by a touching drama, “My Sweet Charlie,” presented by the Laurinburg Institute Playerts. With little scenery and an excited audience, the players evoked tHe entire spectrum of emotions in the play. The play, with its heavy racial overtraies and dramatic energy, served as a unifying force for the audience. This event, along with many other events of the weekend, served to make the festival a huge success. TRAVEL TIME, INC.
