Dear President Perkinson:
The strength of the faculty,
the excellence of the
programs, and tJ» dedication
and stewstttJship of the Board
ot Trustees has carried St. An
drews Presbyterian College
through difficult times.
Despite financial and
enrollment difficulties, the
spirit of the faculty and
students has remain^ free,
creative and productive.
While tensions, troubles and
disagreements have at times
grasped the community, flic
response has always residted
in a positive stanc«, and
creative and innovstive ways
have been found te resolve the
problem and face the future.
Being Dean of the College in
t
his.^Week
. ^ ^
sucn an academic commumty
has been, despite daily
frustrations and hard
decisions, personally rewar
ding, and, if nothing else,
professionally maturing.
Creative diange and positive
adaptation to new structures
and environments is not only
the essence of academic com-
mupAties, but also one of the
prime requisites for a j
meaningfully satisfactory per
sonal life. I have been engaged
in some form of academic ad-
mini.stration for twenty-four
years. Skteen of those years
have been as an academic
dean in church related liberal
arts colleges. For the past five
years, it has been my
privilege and honor to serve
; St. Andrews Presbyterian
i College. As we have
- discussed, Mr. President, the
- time has arrived when I need
: to explore other professional
; alternatives, and the coUege
: needs to seek new ways and
’ new people to nieet^ new
- eiiallenges. ”
; ; It is with a degree of the sad-
' ness whidi is a part of every
: change, 1)ut without regret
and with every confidence in
.good future prospects, both
■ personally and institutionally,
: that Thereby submit to you my
Lv resignation as Vice President
' ! ; for Academic Affairs, Dean of
i ; Uie College and Professor of
History to be effective May 31,
1976.
Victor Arnold
I would be remiss if I did not
end this letter with
statement of genuine ap
preciation to you, Mr.
President, for your kindness
in working out an interim
arrangement which wil!
provide an opportunity for me
to continue to serve the college
in a consultative capacity un
til I take up duties elsewhere.
Further, I extend my
gratitude to the Chairman and
the Executive Cemmittee of
the Board of Trustees for ap
proving the arrangement, but
most of all, for their
strengthening enconragemeni
through all the years.
Sincerely yours,
Victor C. Arnold
