month at St. Andrews with a
series of plays directed by
three senior students
following in December, “The
Little Foxes” in March and an
adaptation of DMoliere en

“Company”, directed by
assistant drama professor
Brad Ford, is scheduled for
October 28-30 in the Liberal

Q f the audience
P efers Fnday, Saturday and
Sunday nights. If the play is
very successful, we’ll hold it

greatest demand will be for
these nights,” he said.
In December three upper
level senior students,
Vanessa Karns, David Miller
and Michael Reeve, will direct
“A Marriage Proposal”,
“Miss Julie”, and “The
Stronger”, respectively.

A Funny Thing Happened On
The Way To The Plant Store, .
BY STEVEN J. KUNKLE
“I went in to buy a plant
and instead bought the store,”
says Mike Council, a 1977 St.
Andrews graduate and now
Owner of the Hanging Basket,
a plant store located in
Laurinburg.
“I had graduated and
couldn’t find a job in
Laurinburg, so I went in to buy
some plants one day and it
looked better and better to me,
so I bought the store from
Cheryl Victor.”
The Hanging Basket,
located right next to the un
derpass at 1628 South Main, is
filled with plants, advice, and
good humor.
“I’m giving a 10 percent
discount to all St. Andrews
students and faculty,” Mike
points out. “I want to en
courage the students to stop
by, even if it’s just to talk for
awhile and visit.”
Going into business was
easy, but the hard part is
getting patronage. “The
people of Laurinburg are nicer
than the average, but they
don’t like the hard sell., When
they’re ready, they’ll come to
me, and I’ll be waiting here. I
have a lot of storage space to
rent, but I can’t rent it now.
When they’re ready. I’ll give
them a good deal.”
“St. Andrews students don’t
stay in Laurinburg after they
graduate. In my class there
were only two I can think of,
myself and John Copeland.
