mSING VOLUME OF COMPLAINTS SPURS NEWLOOK
AT FOOD SERVICE; COMMITTEE REORGANZES
Student Life Writes
Off Yearbook
The Student Life Committee
has, it appears, finally put the
issue of last year’s non
existent Lamp and Shield to
rest. Chairman William J.
Loftus read the committee a
proposed fraft at the Tuesday,
November 29 meeting, of a
letter for inclusion in the
alumni newsletter, explaining
to seniors of 1976-77 that there
would be no yearbook for
thcoming.
The letter, which was
subsequently endorsed by the
committee after two minor
word changes places the
“primary responsibility” for
the failure upon former editor
Sally Beaty. But it also cast
blame upon the Student Life
Conunittee of the past two
years for not strictly over
seeing campus publications,
and promised to inaugurate
procedures and guide-lines to
prevent a recurrence of the
event.
The committee then
proceeded to a discussion of
endorsing workships for
editors of the LANCE and
Lamp and Shield. Loftus,
defining the issue, noted that
this would tend to attract
more competent editors if the
job was actually rewarded
with money. Bilt, he noted,
this could give the coUege a
feeling that it could either
censor these publications or

different? Look no more, for
the Highland Players have
solved your problem. To that
end, they will be presenting a
series of three one-act plays in
the Liberal Arts Auditorium

Each play in the “Three By
Two” presentation will be
directed by a senior member
of the Highland Players:
Vanessa Karns, Michael
Reeve, and David Miller.

1885, in the home of a wealthy
landowner, Chabokov (Chris

Natalya (Suzanne Hogg) is
being proposed to by her
neighbor, also a very wealthy
landowner Lomov (Thomas
Guinn). As the play unfolds,
one is able to see, in a very
comical way, the fine line
between romance and
argument. Kams admits that,
although this is her first
production, she is “very

Glimpses of a world long
gone, tantalizing clues in a
mystery sixty years old, and
details of one of the longest
legal battles of the century
were all part of the visit of the
daughter of the last Russian
czar to St. Andrews on
November 28.
Her Imperial Highness the
Grand Duchess Anastasia, in
the view of believers, or, in
the view of sceptics, the
woman who claims to be
Anastasia, visited the college

retired Virginia professor

First of a Series
Due to the mcreased furor
and unrest centering around
St. Andrews’ culinary scene it
has become glaringly ap
parent that an in-depth study
should be done giving a fair
assessment to both student
feelings and ARA practices.
Enquires were begun this
week by The Lance into the
allegations that the ARA Food
Service was backsliding in its
capacity to effectively teed
the St. Andrews campus.
Facts and sources have been
sought and quoted in order
that an objective view be
obtained and passed on to The
Lance’s readers.
The first job, it seemed, was
to collect as much information
as possible from existing
studies and inquires. A good
starting point for this was to
be a student committee for
med by Student Association
President Celeste Tillson,
which was to hold its latest
meeting on Monday
December 5 in the Student
Life Conference room.
At the meeting, this
reporter, upon introducing
himself to Tillson, was in
formed that she was only
representing the interest of
then absent and since
resigned, J. C. Clarke (then
acting chairman and Attorney
General of the Student
Association) and that, along
with her, only one member of
the original conmiittee, Avery
Jones, was present.
Jones, in an earlier in
terview, expressed sincere
concern for the food situation,
the committee had been
formed to examine. He also
commented that the “shoddily
run committee” was getting
nowhere, even though this was
their fourth meeting.
