To the Editor, Being a long-time resident of St. Andrews, I must say that I was greatly surprised by the lack of patience and con sideration shown in last week’s anti-trol letter. I mean, give the trolls a chance. Any new haunting takes time to achieve true ej96ellence and these trolls are, after all, new to the area, not having had time to learn our customs and patterns. I feel Mr. Robertson is being far too antagonistic to our troll friends (and perhaps showing his anti-troll prejudice). Let me also say that, having been acquainted with trolls in such places as Durham Business College, Duke Hospital, and Winston-Salem Tech, I feel I can safely say that the St. Andrew’s trolls are ddefinitely much better than a quality haunting takes time to develop. I also think that many students have been willing to complain, although no one have bothered to set up a Troll Conunittee to establish an ongoing dialogue with these newest members of the St. Andrews Community. Simiarly, while Mr. Robertson is ready and willing to com plain about such minor an noyances, such as a few troll- marks on a paddle, he fails to offer any words of congratulation about the excellent rappings and tap pings with which we have been favored in recent months. your average troll. I feel I can also say that this years trolls are doing as well as, or better than, the elves that haunted the bamboo forest last year. Granted, there are im provements to be made, but we should also remember that Finally let me say that I personally dislike trolls, so far be it from me to try to get “brownie points” with the trolls. I merely want to come out on the side of truth and fairness. So I say “Hold your horses and give the trolls a chance to produce and they will.” Sincerely, Brian Dolge Small Gym Use For CUB improve the acoustics. These changes are to be concluded by mid-April. Having followed this proposal for a short time when it was brought to the attention of the Student Life Committee by the Campus Planning and Space Utilization Committee, this reporter was somewhawt surprised to see the idea ac tually reach fulmination. The proposal was sent back to Space Utilization with the explanation that Student Life thought further Work on Farrago would be more productive. It was also noted that this would institute a breech into the policy of no alcoholic beverages in academic buildings. There was also registered, at the time, an extreme negative reaction by the PE Depart ment. When asked by The LANCE this morning, Dr. Julian Smith indicated that he had not heard of the proposal, and that as far as he knew ther were no changes presently being considered for the policies of the building. Benzaquin Becomes Placement Director The Student Life Office has added a new facet to college life and services in its recent establishment of a central placement office. Kathleen Benzaquin, presently the Director of Student Activities and the campus conference center, has assumed responsibility for the new program. For this semester, the goal of the placement office is to contact senior students and begin creating new credential files for each one. These files contain dtaa on the student’s academic and social life here at St. Andrews, job or school goals the student may have, as well as recommendations from faculty members or work supervisors. The credential records will be kept on file in the Student Life Office and will be available to be sent as references to graduate schools and possible future employers. In addition to the credential files, the Placement Office will be responsible for posting all incoming job openings. There are two Placement bulletin boards located in the Student Union, one for em ployment and one for in- fomation regarding graduate schools, study abroad and te!t dates. If you have an questions, stop in and 1 Kathy in the Student Activities Ms. Benzaquin reports-tiiat seniors wiU be notified witiiin he next week to make an appointment with her t establish their files. She says that the main emphasis of this semester’s program is to prepare this year’s graduating class for em ployment or graduate school However, any student wishing to establish his-her credential files may make an ap pointment to do so.
