(Rioto by Kim Leland) Orientation Week: Now A Memory BY KATHLEEN BEN- ZAQUIN Director of Student Activities OrientatiMi Weeic, for many of us, is now a mere memory. The pain of tailing tests, run ning here and there, un packing, arranging your things so that four bare walls take on instant personality, and making it through night after night of crazy activity is now just a blur. looking at it from the other side of the fen ce, as one who was in part responsible for putting you tlirough such agonies, it is just as wonderful to have orien tation over with. "Hie basic feeling is “bumt-out”. Taking a thoughtful look at Orientation, I find that it did seem to be a pretty good program. Saturday’s events of registration, welcoming programs, and SAS classes ran togetter anoothly. Our freshmen look like a good group - didn’t lose a single one that day! My contribution to the day, the coffeehouse at Farrago, seemed to provide ^ rousing (or is that, rowdy?) good time for all. 'Hie per formers, former SA student David Niblock and Allan Gwynn gave a fine per formance amid hand clappin’ and much foot stompin’. Our new students will definitely fit in well here at St. Andrews. Sunday brought an over whelming turnout for Frank Covington’s Worship Service in the Belk College Center. An afternoon of tests and SAS classes brought a hungry crowd to an outdoor Barbecue. Dinner was followed by some outstanding sports activities! Hie annual orientation canoe races were definitely the best in recent years, ^ch SAS group providied a 4 person team and alot of energy to achieve the best time to win the coveted trophy. The race started from Chapel Isle, across the lake to Mecklen burg landing where a change in boating personnel occurred, and on back to Chapel Isle. Although we were unable to complete the playoffs, it lo^ Uke we have some pretty tough players for ing intramural volleyball. FoUow'mg such energetic activity, the Freshmen class was treated to the old Hep- bum-Tracy movie classic “Adam’s Rib” at Farrago. Monday brought more tests and more meetings and, of course, more nighttime ac tivity. Festival Disco put on a great night of boogie at Farrago. Despite a few com plaints about the alcohol situation, it turned out to be a fun, and sweaty night! Just when everyone though the testing was over, Tuesday arrived left everyong begging for mercy! Tuesday af ternoon, while the new studen ts toured Laurinburg and en joyed a picnic dinner with the Qiamber of Cwnmerce, the arrival of the “oldies” began. “ The evening brou^t a change cS pace with the Laurinburg- St. Andrews Stage Band’s per formance Ml the Belk Center steps.
