mjs m ■ / M % Republican Convention, Detroit, 1980. Ramey lands grad scholarship LAURINBURG-The Nati onal Collegiate Athletic Association announced today the presentation of a scholarship award to Robert McGarry (Garry) Ramey, a 1980 graduate of St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg. The $2,000 scholarship is for postgraduate study at the university or professional school of his choice. Ramey is the only triple- sport recipient nationwide: his award is in the areas of tennis, cross country, and track. He is one of six NCAA scholarship recipients nationwide in Division III. Nationwide, there were only two other awards presented in tennis, one other in cross country, and five others in track. “Considering the number of potential candidates across the country, this award stands as a significant honor and achievement for the student and a tribute to the institution involved,” said in and Walter Byers, NCAA executive director. Ramey fulfilled a business administration and psychology double major at St. Andrews. He graduated with high honors, ac cumulative average of over 3.75, and is listed in Who’Si Who Among Students American Colleges Universities. As a senior at the College, Ramey was elected most valuable player of both the varisty men’s tennis and cross-country teams. He was voted to the All-Dixie Con ference Team in cross country, and was half of the number one men’s doubles team in the Dixie Conference Tennis tournament. In addition to sports par ticipation at St. Andrews, Ramey also found time this spring to serve as a member of the central steering committee of the St. Andrews Self-Study, which put together a report enabling the College to be reaccredited with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He also worked as a physical therapist at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg while attending school his senior year. Ramey’s plans for next year may include graduate school in business ad ministration at the University of Georgia. He has already been acceptd there and will attend unless, he says “an even better offer comes about.” Coach goes to Denmark LAURINBURG-Doug Ril ey, varisty basketball coach at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, has been selected by the Danish Basketball Federation as an instructor in two summer basketball camps in Denmark. fliley, an assistant professor of physical education at St. Andrews, and coach of the men’s tennis team in addition to basket ball, was chosen as one of a select group of American coaches to participate in the program.
