S A night ^imes INT ANDREWS SPORTS ^^ Undefeated and Unpeaked m Center Jackie Amos, 6’6 Senior, led the Knights in a victory over Belmont Abbey, 83-73. By RICK HANNA When one watches the men’s basketball team play, it may appear as if they are only practicing. The squad has compiled an impressive 6-0 record, and no team has come close to adding a figure in the loss column. The team plays incredible offense and very intense defense. Coach Riley said, “The defensive intensity is the key to our team. The men have taken instruction well, anytime you can hold a team to 50 or 60 points you’re do ing a heck of a job.” Coach Riley also points out that senior leadership has been an important factor with this year’s squad. He said, “Leadership from Jackie (Amos) and Clayton (White) has been tremen dous. A team is only as good as its senior leadership and ours has been fantastic.” Will Petersen, the team’s leading scorer, has done a terrific job, but Coach Riley stated, “Pee W^e can play better. He has a jammed finger, and when it heals you can expect to see more from him.” Coach Riley has been very pleased with the team’s per formance as a whole, too. “They have played consis tent at times, and their incon sistency has been spotty. That’s good. The tem has j meshed well as a unit, ■ They’re a great group to ^ coach, and it’s been a real pleasure.” f Coach Riley added, “We ( have no internal conflicts, we ^ have enough scorers, and we I need to stress roles. Roles ate | stressed in practices, whict ^ are enthusiastic. The [earn works hard in practice, which is where adjustmenis are made. Game night is i reflection of practice.” The squad’s bencli strength was also cited by Coach Riley as a definite fac tor in their performance, “You’re only as good as your bench, without a good bench you’re in trouble. We are blessed with an extraoi- dinary bench,” says Coacli Riley. Bert Joseph, T.C. Me- Cullum, Chris WhittingtoB, Martin Jones were all cited as adding to the team’s strong bench. “We haven’t peaked. We haven’t put it all together yet. I hope the team will peal in January,” were Coacfc Riley’s closing comments. Considering how well the team has done before peakin, it will be interesting to see how much better the) become. It looks as if thereis little room for improvement Men’s Basketball Team Pictured are; (First row) Will Petersen, Andre Webb, Chris Whittington, Clayton White, (Second row) Martin Jones, Lionel Gumbs, James Sutton, Eric Miller, A1 Gibbs, (Third row) Pat Donavan, William Mc Collum, Jackie Amos, Bart Joseph.
