Page 2 the lance February 22, |5(| night views opinions — editorials Dear Students, This is not meant to be an acceptance speech but I do want to take this opportunity to thank the student body for continued support of The Lance. 1 especially thank the staff for your dedication, hard work, and frantic at tempts to meet deadlines. We’ve accomplished our foremost goal which was to provide this community a consistent line of com munication and entertain ment. Now it is time to im prove our work and strive towards top quality for every issue. We will begin by publishing weekly newspapers, which will allow for more updated material. The amazing Ron Bayes has arranged for interested students to receive jounalism credit for working on The Lance staff. Sharon Stanley, Kim Becknell, and Dwayne Snowden (although he is a volunteer) and myself are meeting twice a week now as a class and have much more time to devote to the newspaper. We have many more ideas for continued im provement. I -strongly encourage those of you who can devote any amount of time to The Lance to do so -whether it be repor ting, photography, lay-out work, copy reading, cartoon drawing, free lancing, or anything else you can con tribute. I also encourage peo ple to send in editorials, sug gestions, and information of interest to you to Box 757, for consideration of publica tion. We are still committed, as stated in the first issue, to providing you a competent student newspaper. However, we still need your support and help, and ap preciate every input you can give us. In closing (sniff, sniff), I would especially like to thank Libby Turner for guidance during those rare times of sheer ignorance. This is a system of checks and balances.” The most contraversial issue concerning the new among the concensus. Mary Dom, Wilmington Senator, then said it seemed the main concern among the Senate was that input on the executive level would become stale with appointed as op posed to elected positions. Dosal, however, perceives the Senate’s concern as a fear that the president’s power could be abused. “I don’t see how any president could- abuse the power he/she has when they could easily be removed from office by im peachment or a recall from a majority of students.” He believes that the present Con stitution allows more room for absue because the roles of the president are vaguely defined.
