Continued from page 2 invites the sustainer to engage in problem solving with regards to see ing how the system can be reworked to allow for the changer’s opinion to be adequately expressed in the aspect of learning from it. However, when one conducts a protest through destructive and negating means, then one has recognized that the danger and sus tainer are in opposition to one another and that there can only be an either/or solution. Either the changer is right and the sustainer is wrong or the changer is wrong and the sustainer is right. So that, in set ting up the either/or framework, one is forced to fall on one side of the proverbial fence which will result in an immediate restructuring of either the changer or sustainer. If the sustainer is forced to restruc ture, then, due to the opposing roles, the sustainer will search in the long run for ways to restrict the changer. If the changer is forced to restructure, then, due to the oppos ing roles, the changer will search in the long run for a way to restrict the sustainer. These points which I have argues for in the above response are intend ed, hopefully, to generate within you a clarification on the question of who profits through protest and through what form of protest does one benefit the most in an educa tional community.
