(Gordy) Scoles has been appointed as the new head coach of track and field and cross country...Clyde Parrish has been named head baseball coach...Russ Hoff has been named as the athletic trainer...Shelby Fren ch, Jon Conyers and four horses they were trailering were involved in an accident on N.C. East on Wednes day, June 4. The only person hurt was Jon who had a fractured rib...Robert Carter's painting "The Law" will be included in a coffee table art book published by West Publishing’Company...Norm Boggs reports that musically his summer was three things. He played with Tinte music Judge at Fiddler's Grove Music Competition in Union Grove, N.C., and he played one competition at the Silk Hope Farmer's Day ' ed to Joel Williamson. Central's School of Library Science...Ron Bayes was honored in Raleigh by the North Carolina Writers Organization on Saturday, July 27. Some 150 people were present to pay tribute to Ron in cluding Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bennett, Rob and Thea Engelson, Catherine Neylans, June Milby, President and Mts. A.P. Perkinson Jr., Jack Roper and numerous students and alumni...Dr. Carl Walters, who is away at Brunnenburg this fall, mar ried Ellen Harris, August 2nd, in a lake side ceremony held at Dr. Bob Martin's house (obviously, they are honeymooning in the Italian Alps with their 12 students)...The St. An drews Riding Team came in se cond in the nation out of 150 par ticipating colleges and universities in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association national stock seat (western) championship in Charlot tesville, Virginia...Danny Robinson, a junior from Laurinburg, won the in dividual national championship for advanced stock seat riders for the third straight year...Diane Dyches, College work-study director, is ex pecting her 2nd baby...and Jeff Dix on, an '86 graduate, received the Union Theological Seminary Presbyterian Fellowship for 86-87, but turned it down in order to work in the sanctuary movement in Phoenix, Ariz... International Students Provide St. Andrews With A by Dr. Bob Martin We have started this year with a wonderful array of women and men who are new colleagues from all around the world! Karl Hick is an American citizen but has spent his life as a resident in Greece. Welcome, one and all! We are also fortunate to have four exchange' students with us, spen ding just this one year at St. An drews. From Kansai Gaidai Universi ty in Osaka, Japan, we welcome Rika Fukoe and Kanako Fudamoto. Coming as 'exchange' students from the University of Stirl ing, Scotland are Alec Mungall and Jonathan Freeman. Important flash! Alec is a Scot! Jonathan is English!! A hearty welcome to each of you from all of us! Welcome home to St. Androids who were studying in far places last year! Nancy Shupe is home from a year at University of St. Andrews, Scotland. Hal Driggers is back from his 'exchange' year at Stirling. Steve Fulmer returns from an autumn at Stirling and a Spring at Trinity Col lege, Wales. Catherine Michaud returns from a year at Aix-en- Provence, France. Emily Kennedy is back from a fascinating year in Ger many. Karen Bauer and Mike Leer have returned from a year of study at Kansai Gaidai. Glad each of you are back. The Faculty have not all been 'home-bound' either. It's grand to have Tom Blackburn returned to us from the '85 Autumn Term at Brun nenburg and a term at the University of St. Andrews. Kate Blackburn taught at Brunnenburg and Michael Blackburn had the most interna tional experiences of all-schooling in Germany in Dorf Tirol and a 'proper' school in St. Andrews. We're glad all three of you are back!! Joining our community during the summer , the Dunleavys, Christine and Aidan and their two children, Megan and Aidan. Aidan, Sr. is the Chair of the Educational Program. He and Christine hail from Ireland, he is a native of Dublin, no less! A warm welcome to all four!
