Madrigal Feast to Be Held Blue-White Bash
The St. Andrews Presbyterian College
Chorale and Chamber Singers will present
the fourth annual Elizabethean Madrigal
Fcaste on December 1 and 2.
The feast will celebrate the holiday
season in the Olde English tradition of
singing, minstrels, heralds, ijoar’s head
and wassail bowl processions, and the
ceremony of the Lord of the Manor.
Mark Parsons, St. Andrews professor of
music and theatre, is directing the feast
this year. !

Professor Ron Bayes, St. Andrews
writcr-in-residence recently received good
news about the current group of St.
Andrews students spending fall semester
at Brannenburg Castle in Italy.
Via long distance telephone. Princess
Mary deRachewiltz informed Dr. Bayes
that the students are presenting a produc
tion of her father, Ezra Pound’s Women of
Trachis at the Merano City Theater,
Tartarrotti on November 6. The President
of Italy, Cossiga has sent his congratula
tions to the group and hopes that he can
make the performance.
Princess Mary’s son, Sizzo who has a
Ph.D in Mythology will be here in the
spring to teach the following courses: In
troduction to Pound Studies(2 credits),
Mythology(4 credits) and Folklore(4
credits).
Also this spring. Rabbi Mahre will share
what it is like to be Jewish in the modem
world in his course. Introduction to
Judaism. This class will focus on the
relationship of Judaism and Christianity
and involve a field trip to the Rabbi’s
synagogue in Florence.
Helen Copeland's latest book. Endan
gered Specimen is currently available
through the St. Andrews Press. Dealing
mosdy with nature, Copeland's compila
tion of poems have described by Mary
Kratt as being "both playful and wise, a
mature work of wit and ardor." Endan
gered Specimen Msts for $10.00.
The menu for the evening is wassail,
potato and leek soup, roast sirloin of beef,
glazed carrots, roast whole potatos, green
salad, hard rolls, and cherry or lemon tarts.
The celebration will be held in the Belk
Main Lounge at 7 p.m. on the Sl Andrews
campus. Tickets cost $15 for adults and
$8 for students. They will be available
Nov. 1 at the Scotland County Memorial
Library. Tickets must be paid for when
requested.
With sad regret, we note the passing of
our dear friend Joel Oppenheimer,adjunct
professor of literature of St. Andrews.. He
was a former Black Mountain Collge
student who read his work at St. Andrews
many times. His books. Names J)ates and
Places and At Fifty had been published by
the St. Andrews Press.
