Knights were defeated in their first two matches. The
team lost it s season opener to Pembroke 5-4, and its
second to Coker on Monday.

managed to claim a victory in singles, defeating his
opponent 6-4, 6-4. In doubles, however, the Knights
emerged victorious in every match. The number one
doubles team of Greg Dorsey and Eric Digons

5-1 deficit in the first set, and a 6-0 second set loss,

team of Tim Voige and Shawn Coffman won easily,
6-1, 6-1.
Coach Bob Bierbaum stated that he was disap
pointed at the lack of mental preparation and inten
sity. "I felt that man-for-man we had to ability to beat
Pembroke. We just didn't seem ready to play," he
said. Bierbaum also added that the match still could
have gone either way, with Coffman, Digons, West,
and Chad Esposito losing very close matches.
Against Coker, the Knights suffered a 6-0 defeat.
Doubles play was suspended due to bad weather
conditions. Bierbaum said after the match that
although the team lost, he was more pleased with the
team's altitude and play in general.

Thursday, March 9, against Mount Olive, and Friday,
March 10, against nationally ranked Elon.
