l\/larch 9, 1989 The Lance Page 7 Alcohol Awareness Week: Party Smart Shirley Arnold The themes for this years Alcohol Awareness Week are "Party Smart" and "Know Your self". The committee, comprised of staff and students, has desig nated March 13,14,28, and 29 as the days events will be held for Alcohol Awareness Week. The "Party Smart" theme comes prior to Spring Break with the follow-up theme - "Know Yourself" coming after the break. Special events concerning these topics are listed following this article. The overall theme is divided into two parts: 1) to help students know how to be responsible drinkers and 2) how to abstain from drinking if that is what's best for you. We think the events being presented will give students assistance in making the decision that is best for them (on an individual basis). Interest has beeen shown in starting a BACCHUS Chapter (Boost Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of Univer sity Students) on our campus. "BACCHUS is a national student organization with affiliated chap ters at institutions of higher education in the United States. Through education and activities designed to increase awareness of changing alcohol issues, BACCHUS advocates informed, independent decision making and respect for the choice of absti- nance." (from BACCHUS fact sheet). The group will be com prised of students with an adminis trator/faculty person who is willing to support their efforts. On Campus Fiction & Fact From Jaclc's Almanac Here are the answers to the questions posed in the last issue of T h e L a n c e. 1. The answer was the campus directory... the clues were the addresses of the first person in a long list of names...Alan Abrams, the hero of Spartansburg S.C. and the "last person in a list equally long...Mr. Theiron Young..."a noted campus authority, 2. The students were of course, Edie,Cheryl, Lisa, and Linda Jane, all of whom have red hair, the clue "burgundy' matches Edie's street address in Aiken. 3. The answer was Norama, the world's shortest giant, who with Andy Mason, starred in the azure video Ganza '86. 4. Riz and Lane share the leader line on page 11 in the campus directory. 5. Try" Martinez"... Tammy's last name (and Sharon of Concord) and Sharon Train's hometown. 6. Eddie Foy (ask Dr. Melton who he was) is no relation to Sandra... Robert Frost is not kin to Jo, and finally, certain evidence to the contrary, Brendon Flynn has no tie to Errol of Tasmania. We are honored to note however, Kim Costello is neice to Lou, Greg Dorsey's uncles were Tommy and Jimmy and Judy Garland, nee Frances Gumm was an aunt of our Susan. 7. The place names that were clues are the homes, when not on campus, of Deborah Kelly, Sharon Fields, and Brother Flynn, all from the Quaker City area. Congratulations to BRENDA KRUEGER who called in four correct answers before anyone else. Brenda wins Gathering Place 25$. Ciisa ws We N&&dandff £:zrt. 330 arasff;
