This is the best start in the Knights' ^istory. The team earned a national ranking (25th among fsIAIA teams) during the first jweek of April. j Leading the way for Coach Cary Swanson's squad is Chad jLindeman, who has been very I'hot at the plate. A junior from iwindom, Mn., he is currently I batting .417, with 8 home runs, 27 runs-batted-in, and 28 stolen bases. Other leading hitters for the Knights include sophomore Dave Owens (.425, 5 home runs, 23 rbi's), sophomore Dane Gordon (.424,23 rbi's, 22 stolen bases), senior Fabian Schommer (.418,21 rbi's), and freshman Tim Kro- ecker (.400,20 rbi's). . Balke also became only the third pitcher in St. Andrews history to pitch a no-hitter. The gem came against Betheny . College on March 25. It was the first no-hitter for a Knight since 1981. Other Knight pitchers enjoying success this year include junior Ronnie Roy (5-2,1.90 e.r.a.), Jr. Tony LiCari (3-0,3.48 e.r.a.), and senior Tim Wilson (3-0, 5 saves, .00 e.r.a.). The Knights have been without 1988 standouts Kent Smith (Sr.) and Jim Isenhart (So.), who are recovering from injuries. The depth of the team, which is much improved over last year, has turned out to be a key factor in the Knights' success. They are currently 6-4 in Conference play, with wins over Wingate (twice), Catawba, Guilford, and High Point. In addition, the Knights knocked off NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure. Coach Swanson said that overall he is pleased with this year's squad, and hopes the Knights can finish strong as well.
