October 17,1989 The Lance Page 6 Knights Look for Winning Season Michael Roberts The St. Andrews Men's Soccer team is tiying to be come the first team since 1979 to finish with a winning sea son. Monday’s win over Francis Marion brought the teams overall record to 7-7-1. Coach Lorenzo Canalis likes his team's chances of finishing better than .500. He stated that the Knights have been competitive in every match this season. He attrib utes the success of this team thus far to agressive play up front by Stephen Hollinger combined with great play from Alan Johnson and Mike Hanes. "Hanes has gone from being a depth player to being an impact player," said Ca nalis, "an Hollinger has been a scoring force all season." Canalis is also pleased to have regained the services of Co-captain Colin McDavid. "Colin is simply the smartest soccer player that 1 have ever been associated with," said Canalis. Canalis added that McDavid is essential to the Stephen Hollinger leads the team in goals this year with seven. Among his scor ing feats are two hat-tricks. Canalis added that another key to a winning season is solid goal play. Travis Loseke and Anthony Tarsa- tana have shared the duties at that position. Last week the Knights managed to defeat Division I East Carolina University. "That was without a doubt the biggest win of my career," said Canalis about the game. Rod Riley scored and helped lead St. Andrews to an important win over Francis Marion. The win came on the heels of a tough played match with nation ally ranked Belmont-Abbey, and a disappointing loss to Limestone College. The next match for the Knights will be Warren Wilson. team's success because ot his ability to see the entire field and to direct traffic. 0’t »%**■ Senior Co-Captain Colin Me David Women’s Soccer Defeats Presbyterian Michael Roberts The Lady Knights soccer team continues to eclipse all pre-season expectations. The Knights downed Presby terian College by a score of 3- 0 Saturday for their sixth win of the season, and an overall mark of 6-4. Kathy Feely continues to lead the team in scoring with 13 goals in 10 games. Cat Holsopple has scored 6 goals and has 9 assists. Joy Feinberg continues to rack up impressive numbers at keeper. In 10 games she has amassed 98 saves and 6 shutouts. She has been given tremendous support from Katie Vines, who continues to play very rugged defense. The Lady Knights have outscored their opponents 30-10 this season. 'Their next match wnll be against UNC- Greensboro. Lady Knights in action
