The Lance • St. Andrews Presbyterian College Campus&City Upcoming SGA Kerry NutI Columnist Eddie and I are look ing forward to a packed year. It began at the Board of Trustees meet ings on April 23rd and 24th. These meetings were basically informa tion gathering sessions for the Board. After the meeting, Eddie and I were invigorated and began to set up some goals for next year. Next year 1992-1993, is the year of the Envi ronment. St. Andrews is developing an environ mental studies program with the possibility of a major and a minor. The recently instituted En ergy Conservation pro gram will strengthen this common theme. The key word for next year is to conserve! Shut off lights, TV, radio and other appliances when you leave the room! We also have a logo devel oped by a team of stu dents headed by Jenni fer Thompson for the year of the environment. You'll see these logo's all over the campus next year! A large fresh class will be pouring into St. An drews for 1992-1993. This class is estimated to be between 240-260 Talk, Talk, Talk The Great Debate went on and on and on until 3:45 AM Sunday morn ing, breaking the record that Dublin University had held for twelve years. In the final count, the debaters spoke for 518 hours and 45 min utes. Congratulations! Get off! And way to go Debaters! new students. The freshpeople will be coming one week early fororientation. They are coming early to promote a feeling of community among the new students. The students will imme diately be integrated into the St. Andrews com munity. The officers of Student Government will also come back early to help with orien tation. The main goal for next year is to get the whole student body involved in student affairs. We are also trying to unite the St. Andrews community by joining Dorm forces. Eddie and I wish for everyone to have a good summer. We look for ward to seeing you next year. For all the gradu ating seniors, we sadly say good-bye and send our best wishes for a bright future. We look forward to your return as alumni over Ganza weekend or any other party! Senior Campaign Senior Campaign has once again shown the commitment of SA stu dents. The original goal was $7,500 with three year pledges. The class of '92, approximately 170 people strong have committed more than 15,000 and decided to fund a scholarship. Once the base amount of $10,000 has been raised, SA will begin to award scholarships to juniors/ seniors to help them de fray rising college costs and stay at St. Andrews. The award amount will be 5% of the endow ment. Congratulations and thank you to the class of 1992. Senior people, right about now if you are checking your mail box regularly there are a mil lion memos from every office on campus trying to remind you of the twenty-thousand things a senior must do before graduating. Here (I hope) is a helpful check list: Thursday (yesterday) was the return date for senior superlatives. Maybe Lennie will ac cept the form if you have taken the time to fill out the survey. Friday May 1st: 4 p.m. in LA B14 GSL exit conference *Last Chance* You must have your student loans processed to graduate. OutFront and ...St. Andrews? It could happen. Back in late March, a colum nist with the Charlotte Observer, made a plea to colleges everywhere. Doug Robarchek writes the OutFront Column in the Entertainment sec tion of the Observer. He started on March 9th, bargaining for a honor ary degree from any ac credited college. On the table was "almost 78 bucks, a Chicago transit Authority token, a bottle of Andre's Cold Duck and a lamp shaped like a woman in a hoop skirt." What a deal! In the next day's paper the Ole' OutFrontGuy upped the ante. "We'll donate $87.52 and an eight- pack of returnable Coke bottles to any accred ited college that comes through." Evidently there has been a little tension in the OutFront family. Robarchek's fi nal plea is this; "So send us that degree, some body. You'll be helping Next Week is the week to make sure your account is cleared with the Business Office. This is the only way to get your cap and gown. Caps and Gowns will be available from Debbie Chavis (next door to the cashier) at the following times: ^:oo to nm aud 2:00 to 5:00 6th thru Friday, May 8f h photo courtesy of Charlotte Oseruer an American family. And you'll be making more than 88 bucks." Now, why am I men tioning this at such a late date? St. Andrews can not help Doug Robarchek this year but there is next year. Every year three, sometimes four people are awarded honorary degrees. This is a chance for students to get involved, rally behind a fun and worth while cause. Considerit please Class of 1993, and read the OutFront col umn .You may agree, he sounds a lot like we used to*. *Hosstyle, without ref erences to Dogwood Mile raceway and the beautiful Lake Ansley C. Moore. Make sure you have paid all your parking fines, library fines, lab fines and "resolve any outstanding balance on your student account." It doesn't get much sim pler, (unless some wealthy relative shows up). Paula has also sent a memo out asking seniors to set up a time to check out. Dorms close for se niors at 10 p.m. on May 9th, 1992. These may seem like more endless details but think of it this way, th£ last of thp ^ndless iSi tails! Just a few more days (8), so congratula tions and good luck!
