DAYTONA
BEACH, Ha —It is time to
start planning for Spring
Break 1993.
Daytona Beach,
Florida is still the premier
destination for Spring Break.
From mid-February through
mid-April, thousands of stu
dents throughout the United
States and Canada will travel
to Daytona Beach. Spring
Break has drawn crowds as
large as 200,000-400,000. and
1993 should be just as busy.
Some of the events
in the planning stages for 1993
are:

boy and basketball—are com
bined to bring visitors 2-in-l
ftm! The terms “pick & roll,
hitting the open m an, running
the floor” and “crashing the
boards” take on a whole new
meaning at the annual Play
boy/Schick Spring Break, 3
on 3 Basketball Tournament
on March 8-12, 15-19 and
22-26.
The tournament will
take place on the Ora Street
Lot south of Holiday Inn
Boardwalk.
Registration begins
at 10 a.m. with tournament
play from 11-5 p.m. Meet
Playboy playmates through
out the event.
Free t-shirts will be
given to all entrants with
prizes at each round. The
winning team each week will
receive $3000.
As Spring Break’93
marks the beginning of spring
baseball around the United
States, Daytona Beach has all
one can handle. The Daytona
Beach Spring Break College
Baseball Jamboree has games
scheduled throughout the
month of March at Jackie
Robinson Ball Park, located
just a short walk from the
beach.
Each day from
March 8 through the 31. up to
3 games a day will be played.
Some of the teams are
Bluefield State College, Con
necticut State. Cornell, Kean
College, Bethune-Cookman,
ERAU, William Patterson
and more.
Vacation at Daytona
Beach will also include wres
tling matches and hocky. The
Ocean Center of Daytona
Beach will present matches
onMarch20at7:30p.m.,and
the Daytona Beach Sundevils
will take to the ice for Sun
shine Hockey League activ
ity on March 21,22 and 23 at
7:30 p.m.

Partying on
campus

St. Andrews tradition
holds that Granville dormj.
tory throws “killer” parties
with a very good band, vari
ous little parties and every
thing else. If one asked a
sophomore, junior or senior
if last Saturday night’s pany
was comparable to pastyears’
parties, he/she would prob
ably have to say no. The
dorm had a good band, and to
play pop as well as rock is a
rarity at St. Andrews^ y
Although tlie band
was “above average,” one
thing was lacking. A large
crowd of people was not there.
One could easily tell this the
next morning by noticing the
lack of beer cans and bottles
in the recycling bins.
These large,blue
crates usually have a great
number of beer cans over
flowing the edges of cato-
ceptacle the morning after
such a party. Being one of the
first dorm parties of 1993 and
the weather still cool may
have been two of the reasons
for the rare-sized crowd. Bui
it still allowed students an
opportunity to socialize and
catch up in friendships.
One such friend was
Kathryn Finger who studied
inEurope during winterterm.
She missed socializing with
her friends and also the bon
fires while she was away. She
remained in and around the
courtyard socializing and
dancing near the warmth of
the flames in its center.
Students of Granville
built the large fire under su
pervision when the tempera
ture dropped into the mid-to-
upper 30’s. Most everyone
stcx)d either around it talking
and drinking, mingled in vari
ous suites or gathered in the
larger Activities of Daily Liv
ing apartments.
Sean Virkler, a
former student of SL Andrews
who transferred to NC State
inRaleigh. visited too. When
I saw him in Albemarle, we
were both deathly quiet with
surprise. Wehadnotseennor
talked to each other since May
of 1992 when Sean trans
ferred. Weproceededtowalk
back to my
ADL#6 talking, catching up
along the way.
