gf Andrews Presbyterian College The Lance 7 Clubs Rev Up For New Academic Year by MICHELLE MELTON Black Student Union Throughout his year BSU will be adding a collection of ethnic authors to the Ethnic Library at DeTamble Library. In December, BSU intends to have a male/female auction in order to raise more money for the Ethnic Library. Also there is a possible food/clothing drive in the works around Thanksgiv ing. Nathalie Pace is president and Ron Venzen is vice-presi dent. Stephanie Littles is the advisor. CHAOS Chaos is well underway this year. Already, the club has sponsored a guest speaker and hopes to have more in the near future. Chaos will be working with local elementary school children all year. Chaos enter tains and educates the children by demonstrating simple, but groovy, chemistry experiments. Officers this year are Georgia Haynes - President, Joaima Duckworth - Vice-President, Christy Pietsch - Treasurer, and Heather Pittard - Secretary. Jim Lankford is the advisor. Christian Student Fellowship CSF meets at 6 p.m. in the Chapel every Sunday for worship. Bible Study is Tues day nights at 8:30 p.m. in tiie Chapel. Also CSF sponsors “Thursday Night Live” which encompasses “just about any thing,” according to CSF President, Byron Sellers. Other officers are Adrian Martin - Vice-President, Lewis Beatty - Treasurer, and Emily Rogers - Secretary. There will be a CSF retreat October 20, 21, and 22. CSF’s advisor is Edna Ann Loftus. Debate Society The Debate Society plans to eventually metamorphosize into a Debate team, complete with at least two toumaments per semester and the establishment of scholarships. St. Andrews is the only southern parliamentary team in the Northem circuit. Club meetings are Monday, 7 p.m., in LA B2. Officers are Kellam Parks - President, Belinda Ellis - Vice-President, Mike Lake - Treasurer, and Dana Hardwicke - Secretary. Dick Prust is the advisor. Eco-Action This year, Eco-Action is striving in order to make the campus, both sides, more envirormientally soimd. With one Campus Clean-up under its belt, Eco-Action is developing. Right now Eco-Action is inves tigating paper recycling and how it can be put into effect at SA. The club sponsors a task force in charge of going to the academic side of the lake and cutting off lights, etc. Also Eco- Action will be selling environ mental t-shirts at SAGA soon. The club meets in Orange Main Lounge every other Sunday (there will be a meeting Oct. 22). Also Eco-Action is in the process of getting a notice board on e-mail. Officers this year are Chris Femer - President, Michelle Loiselle - Vice-Presi- dent, Libby Tart - Treeisurer, and Michelle Melton - Secretary. Mike Fletcher is the advisor. History Club In September, the History Club sponsored a guest speaker. Dr. William Evans. Dr. Evans spoke about the Lowry Band during the civil war era. Allison Corley and Melanie Powell are co-presidents and George Melton is the advisor. Kendo Club Gym or in a racquetball room if the small gym is occu pied. Judy Mwlanki is president and Nohara Toshikazu is vice - president. David Fish is the advisor. Symposium Symposium meets bi monthly, every other Wednes day. Coming up, on Oct.27, Val Plumwood, from NC State will speak about Eco-feminism. Mike Lake and Kellam Parks are contacts and the ring leaders. Bill Throop is the advisor. Tri-Beta Tri-Beta initiated new members the first week of October. Colleen Cunningham \ is president and Frank Watson is the advisor. Tropical Music Club The Tropical Music Club meets Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Winston-Salem. The club teaches people how to dance to Latin music. Some popular dances that are taught are the salsa and merengue and many more. Officers are AguedyAguilar - President, Dora Argudo - Vice-President, Marta Campoverde - Treasurer, and Maribel Timbe - Secretary. The advisor is Catalina Astudillo. Unexplained Phenomenon Club meetings are Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., in the Nucleus (MJ). Topics explored stretch from Bigfoot, UFOs, to ghosts and telepathic powers. John Myma is president. Computer Services will be offering Internet Classes on October 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Computer Lab A (in L.A.)
