TUf Lnnce -September 25.1996 Stflff Editorifll A bad sign. (Or a couple dozen) LA is drowning in paper! Every hallway, every door and every bulletin board is covered in signs announc ing various student clubs and activities. It’s getting to the point where it’s impossible to tell if there are any new jobs on the job board without looking closely. Because there are so many signs, none of them stand out, any way.. Some suggestions: Bulletin Boards. There are bulletin boards in the dorms, in the suites and in Belk that are just for stu dent use. Use them, and don’t clutter up the bulletin boards that are just for work/study, financial aid or the registrar’s office. The Internet. Mass e-mailing could get annoy ing, but it’s not that bad now and it’s a pretty good way to reach everyone. There are also some bulletin boards available on the net. The cafeteria. The bang-on-a-glass method is embarrassing, but it’s an excellent way to get people’s attention. r . m you art Guest Column Radio club needs your support to fix up station Once upon a time there was a radio station on campus here at St. Andrews. This is not another fable, this is a true story. Then somewhere around the late 80’s the big bad wolf came and blew it down and the little pigs danced on it’s grave. Since that time, there have been many attempts to get back on the air. Some of these attempts almost made it, and some failed miserably. This newspaper, back in 1991, wrote an article stating that the radio station (WSAP) would be back on the air soon. Now, five years later, we hope to make this hap pen. “How do you start a ra dio station?” you might ask. Well, with the impassioned vi sion of a Sophomore named John Slifka, a dedicated Senior named Jesse Walker and an en ergetic Junior named Aaron “Spanky” Selzer, it just might happen. The triumvirate has spent most of it’s free time re organizing the club and digging up old equipment from various basements and closets. Now, soon after the printing of this article, Thursday to be exact, we will be an approved club again. Yet being a club does not a sta tion make. Radio stations are an expensive hobby for college students. This will just give us the power to start raising money and collecting equipment and finding a studio, all of which we need to do before we can get on the air. Within a week after the approval, the first radio club meeting will take place. That’s really what his article is about. ladies and gentlemen. It is an impassioned plea for support from students, faculty and staff to help us make this dream a reality by the end of next semes ter. So students, come to our meetings, show your support and help us make this happen from the inside. Everyone wants to be a DJ. Faculty and staff, show us your support. I don’t have to mention what a boost a real live working radio station would be to the campus and community. We might even let you, the faculty, have your own radio show. That would be interesting. Neal? Prust? Melton? So let me sum up by say ing that if the big bad wolf and the three little pigs show up this year at the radio station, we are going to have ourselves a pig pickin’ on a new fur rug. We mean to have this radio station, but we need you help. If you wish to contact us before out meeting, please contact either: John Slifica, Station manager; Jesse Walker, Program Man ager; Aaron “Spanky” Seltzer, Business Manager. -Jesse Walker Guest Column Eco-Action is a chiance to clean up SAPC Eco-Action, the SAPC environmental group, is ready lo con tinue the battle of bringing awareness and action to the SAPC community.
