Whether the home team is doing great or if they need a word of en couragement, it is always the fans that are screaming at the top of their lungs. They are working just as hard to win as the play ers on the field! As a soccer player, I couldn’t be gin to explain how important the support of the fans is to our team. We play for the faculty and students, as well as the respect of the school. We are honored to play for St. Andrews and it is our job to put out one hundred percent effort every time we step out on to the field. What is surprising, though, is that every time we go out there to play, you, the fans, are out there as well! There is nothing for you to personally gain from being there to watch the game, but you are still there. The fans are just as determined as the players, if not more, to see our school succeed. This type of support is great as long as we keep it positive. It is understood that the players are responsible for their actions on the field. If a player were to show disrespect to the other team or the officials, they would be reprimanded for their actions. Similarly, the fans must also be responsible for what they say and do. Even though we don’t want the opposing team to win and we want to put them off their game, there must be some guidelines we adhere to. It is possible to show the opposition respect and still wear them down psychologi cally. We are all human and we should, therefore, treat each other like we would want to be treated. To go along with this, it is also important to realize that we are St. An drews students wherever we go, and we should have pride in that fact. So, when we, as die hard fans, want to go to another school to cheer our Knights on to victory, we must understand that we carry the title “St. Andrews student” along with us. I.et’s let evervone know who we are rooting for, but we should also keep in mind that it has to be done in a tasteful manner. We must represent our college community with dignity and respect, hold our heads high, whether it be vic tory or defeat, and be proud to be a part of the St. Andrews Fan Club! I can’t wait to see you out in the stands, but even better, I can’t wait to hear you cheer the Knights on to another victory!
