Features November 1. 1996 "tVvC So^\ fRESENriNG: ■tVe orx^f^s} . \ hi Ufitti 'A Wald’s World Y! ,S!!! It’s that time a year again. Can’t you tell by the fun- filled ads on the T.V., the car toons in the paper, the apathy in the air. Yup it’s presidential election time and what a cast of characters we got to choose from this year. Let’s see this year we got Slick Rick Clinton trying to become a two-timer(no pun intended), grandfather Dole, excuse me great-grandfa- ther Dole, and some short, big eared, lunatic billionaire to choose between. Is it any won der why I’m not registered? No sir, the election won’t be passing to soon for me. The non-stop news coverage and all the mindless negative ads, man it’s just getting old. Isn’t the whole point of this election to try and find the “best” candi date to lead this fine country of ours, not elect the candidate that fits the description, “well he’s not so bad”. The political parties spend hundreds of mil lions of dollars advertising for their candidate and their views, and all they can say is Dole is a geezer, or Clinton is a stoner, don’t you think they could be a little more creative. Hell, I think I’d vote for Eddie the Pear if he ran a straight for ward positive campaign, at least he’d be focusing on the issues, plus, how can you not love the pear, he’s just got it going on(there’s your plug Marlon). I don’t know who I’d vote for if I was registered, now that I think about it. Are any of these candidates really fit to be presi dent of the United States? I don’t think so. My opinion has been completely distorted, by the media and hype anyways. Whatever happened to the Abe Lincolns, the FDR’s, the JFK’s? Why can’tthe American public find a person of these former presidents outstanding charac ter and with the leadership they possessed? Maybe it’s because these types of people, don’t want to be scrutinized by the press, and have their whole lives, good and bad, exposed before the eyes of the public. I feel that we put too much pres sure on these candidates to have a perfect past, and don’t worry enough abouth the policies and ideas they possess today. We lost Colin Powell this year be cause of this, and it will most likely deter many other formi dable candidates from running if we don’t stop these attacks on personal character. I under stand this is what makes news, and what sells papers, but these people running are who repre sent and stand for our country. If we make them look bad, we as a country look bad. So best of luck to all of you voters out there, trying to fmd the best can didate to cast your vote for. I lie to you not, if the way campaigns are run doesn’t change by the 2000 elections, I guarentee Eddie the Pear will be getting one vote. This has been Wald’s World and I’m out like shout. -Matt Sauerwald Sports Melissfi Collins Cflrtoonist Morion Corey Arts Donno Sommonder Op-Ed Cyndi Cole TheLonce Editors-in-chief Amondfl Wloughby SuzynSnritH TheUricelsaUwntfi/pUjlof^wf^chlSfrodJceclecllect/rxtc^slgriecJtyScAnchEwsstudBriCi TfieUmce lsprlnt€dtytHeUijrttxrgEi(cNFrcehlJiurht^ IjgzgsKjtkEEOccTfrew^xTTTEdlxxrriJBCtcixknfrne.iifriEnjnta’FriclcRrwusboKnirrtiB'.
