They won their first game by a score of 4 to 1. Rob Priest pitched a one hitter with six strike outs. Offensively, Takashi Tatenami was 2 for 2 with a run scored. Chance Beam had a double with two RBIs. The Knights second game ended in the sixth inning with a score of 10 to 2. Pitcher Scott McDonald gave up four hits and had eight strike outs. Three home runs were launched by the Knights play ers Paul Oehich, Tyrin Pickett, and Stacy McCollum. Hits were also contributed by Takashi Tatenami, Joseph Allen, Vaughn Pauls, and Carlos Maysonet. There was an overall excellent tram effort by tfte" Knights. Everyone on the team was a contributor. We can ex pect great things from the team this season. The Knights played an other double header on Mon day against VA Intermont. The first game began at noon and the Knights won with a score of 6 to 0. Their second game was a different story. The Knights lost 9 to 3. Despite a great defensive effort by the Knights, they just could not hold VA. Catcher Chance Beam made some excellent defensive plays. Joe Nelson was the starting pitcher who gave up the four initial runs. Ryan Fuller came on in relief in the third inning. The Knights had a total of four hits in seven innings. These were recorded by Paul Oeh'ich, Joseph Allen, Takashi Tatenami, and Stacy McCollum. Joseph Allen had two RBI's and Ian Hendricks brought in the third run. Al though the Knights’ bats weren’t making much contact, they tried to make things hap pen. Unfortunately, they came “P short. Better luck next time, Knights. Catawba Indians Itwasabeautifiil after noon as the St. Andrews Knights took on the Catawba Indians. It was a hard fought game by two very talented and evenly matched teams. The In dians were the first to score in the third inning. This brought them ahead 2 to 0 until the Knights scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings. It was a close game all the way up to the ninth, when the Knights led 4 to 3. The Catawba Indians came up big in the top of the ninth scoring 4 runs, giving them the win. This was a hard loss for the Knights. Brandon Folkers pitched seven great innings with six strike outs and gave up only 3 hits. Mark Fleming was brought in with one out in the seventh to J&lieye Folkers. Fleming quickfy produced the last two outs of the inning with an outstanding pickoff move to first base. Fleming had two strike outs and gave up four hits. The Knights defense was outstanding, with some in credible catches by outfielders Wilbom and Oelrich. Offensively, the Knights were also very successful. Jo seph Allen had two singles for the Knights. Tyrin Pickett had a single, a double, and a RBI. McCollum, Pauls, and Beam also had singles. Two other doubles were hit by Wilboum and Tatenami. Despite the offensive and defensive efforts of the Knights, their bats fell short in the seventh, eightii and ninth. They were unable to produce runs. Despite the loss, the Knights played a very success ful game. Wingate On February 25 the Knights’ developmental base ball team played a double header against Wingate. Aaron Meier pitched a complete first game to lead the Knights to a 4 to 2 victory over Wingate. "I. Aaron Meier also pitched the first inning of game two with one strike out. Joseph Allen came in on the second inning. Pitch ing six com plete innings, he had five strike outs and only gave up three hits. Brian Freivogel pitched the eighth and fmal in ning. He held Wingate to four runs. Defensively, the Knights outfielders made some beauti ful catches. On the offensive side, the Knights were very produc tive. The seven hits were re corded by Chuck Apligian, Takashi Tatenami, Joe Nelson, Scott Bourhill, Scott McDonald, and two hits by Carlos Maysonet. Runs were scored by Carlos Maysonet, Takashi Tatenami, and two by Scott McDonald. Both offensively and de fensively, the developemental team produced nicely. Unfor tunately, the second game was called after the eighth inning because of darkness. This left the game tied 4 to 4. Ponbroke The Knights lost to Pembroke 9 to 5. This wasn't due to lack of trying; Pem broke was just able to produce more offensively. It was a disapointing loss for the Knights. Mark Fleming was our starting pitcher. He completed three innings with three strike outs and gave up only one hit. This was a two run homer. Fleming's pickoff move to first base was also very effec tive. Joe Nelson came in on the fourth, pitching forthree in- nings. Nelson had two strike outs, and gave up two hits and two runs. Ryan Fuller came in at the top of the seventh inning. He pitched three no-hit innings, but rafl into trouble in the tenthv He gave up four hits with a three run homer. The Knights had six hits throughout the game. Tyrin Pickett had two, while Stacy McCollum and Ian Hendricks each had one. Chance Beam hit a double while Pacer Wilson smashed a triple to the left field side, recording two RBIs for the Knights. Stacy McCollum also had two RBIs and Paul Oelrich had one. Despite a loss, the Knights should be proud of their performance. Their hearts were always in the game with their fight-to-the-end atti tudes. Barton On a beautiful Sunday aftemoon, the Knights played Barton College in a double header. The Knights claimed victory in both games. They were “on” both offensively and defensively. They fought for victory and they achieved it. In game one, Rob Priest pitched six complete innings. He pitched beautifully giving up only eight hits and four runs. He recorded five strike outs for the Knights. The Knights came up big offensively. They had ten hits. Paul Oelrich, Joseph Allen, Stacy McCollum, and Brandon Folkers all had singles. Ian Hendricks had two singles on two bunts, while both Pacer Wilson pnd Tyrin Pickett had a single and a double. Joseph Allen had three RBIs and Bran don Folkers had two. Going into the second game of the day, the Knights were pumped from their vic tory in the first game. Scott McDonald started off the pitching in the first. He gave us two outs, and Joe Nelson came in to fmish. Pitching sbt innings, he only gave up four hits and one run. The Knights defense was flawless. Offensively, the Knights scored four runs on four hits. Paul Oelrich, Joseph Allen, Pacer Wilson, and Ian Hendricks recorded the hits for the Knights. RBIs were given to Joseph Allen, Stacy McCollum, and Pacer Wilson with two. Fired up from these two victories, the Knights will be at top performance for their next game.
