September 1997 EC^TUpdate by Gail Menius Electronic Com merce is the wave of the future for business. The need for this facility arose in 1994 when the Depart ment of Defense decided to require all of their suppliers to do business through Elec tronic Data Interchange. This cuts down on, costand time and it simply makes things a lot easier. Large businesses already used EDI; there was, however, a need to help small to medium sized businesses get on the bandwagon. Thus ECRC was bom. But if you are more in terested in something closer to home, I have juicy stuff. There are oppourtunities for interns on an as-needed ba- ••• sis, although they cur rently have enough people. There is also going to be a training facility on campus. This facility will be located in Pate Hall and will be used for classroom instruction. ECRC affects every one at St. Andrews. The internships are educating the students involved about the current tech nologies. As with most new technologies, it will change the way that ev eryone does business in the future.
