The Semester System: A Student's View by Mel Collins I will be the first to admit that when I first heard about the proposed calendar change, I did not like it. Winter Term was one of the so bad having a schedule that changes after eight weeks. And with the longer semester, maybe the breaks will coin key factors which got me to St. Andrews. I have greatly en joyed the two winter sessions I have at tended. But as far as the new calendar goes, I may have to change my mind. The semester sys tem seems to be growing on me, as it is with a lot of professors and stu dents. Maybe it won’t be I have greatly enjoyed the two winter sessions I have at tended. But as far as the new calendar goes, I may have to change my mind. cide with those of my friends back home. I am not entirely convinced that I will com pletely love the new setup. The burning question in my mind is how confusing will registration be when people have to remember the concept of “demi-sems”? I know that there has been confusion at registration before. What will this curve ball do to that pro cess? Will I be able to remem ber which classes are when af ter the middle of the semes ter? The sadness over los ing Winter Term will lin ger through at least part of the Fall Semester. Maybe even into next Spring. All I know is that there is po tential for this thing to make St. Andrews a differ ent kind of school. Whether the change will be good or bad overall, well, I reserve judge ment until next year.
