St. Andrews has two new Deans, and another plans to retire at the end of the year. In June, Phil Barrineau became Dean of Students. It is his responsibility is to oversee the Student Affairs Division, comprised of Residence Life, Judicial Affairs Student Involvement and other programs. He still fulfills his old responsibilities as ’ Director of Career Services and will continue to do so until a replacement is found. One project that Barrineau has started is the revision of The Saltire He intends to include information about student services in the guidebook. He thinks that students often find it difficult to get answers to their questions about the college. It is his hope that additions can be made to The Saltire so students never have to ask these questions in the first place. Barrineau would also like to reopen Farrago. He wants students to have a place to socialize outside of their residence halls. As Dean of Students, Barrineau considers it his responsibility to discover new ways to build the St. Andrews community. He reminds all students that his door is always open. Across campus, a new placard has been added to the door of Dr. Edna Ann Osmanski Loflus' office. She is now Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She worked with former Registrar and Associate Dean Jim Stephens during the summer to make the transition smoother for the college. "This job is college service, oriented towards students and their academic experiences." Loftus said, describing her position. Loflus has three primary concerns in her new job. She is responsible for Student Academic Affairs, overseeing the advising system and helping students overcome difficulties with counseling. She works with the International Programs committee to enhance and support overseas educational opportunities. She is also responsible for organizing the Summer Session at St. Andrews. "I really like to work in a collaborative environment with other faculty and students," she commented. Loflus does not plan on making any major changes in her area of responsibility until she gets a better feel for faculty and student interest. She would like to find new ways of congratulating students for outstanding academic performance. She is also interested in opening new avenues for students studying abroad.
