2 Lance News The Lance GOLF CONTIUNED FROM PAGE 1 However, there was still another matter to be settled, that being the individual title. Yeung and Dronov, a member of the “B” team who did not qualify for the “A” team prior to the tournament, went back to the 18th tee to decide the winner. Dronov won the honor on the tee and placed his drive nicely down the center of the fair way, a shade over 200 yards from the green. Yeung answered with a laser beam to 150 yards. Sergej plugged his second shot into the bunker, leaving himself with a dreaded “fried egg” lie, where the ball is buried in the sand, basically looking like a fried egg; a very dif ficult shot for even the best golfers to pull off. The calm Yeung placed his second shot nicely on the green, right in the center. Dronov, looking back on the hole, said he hit too good a shot to get out of the bunker, because, as it played out, he hit it pure and it flew past the flag, coming to rest 18 feet right of the hole. Yeung, seeing this, carefully lagged his birdie putt to 30 inches. When Dronov let his par putt slip by on the short side, he, a true gentleman, asked Coach Hughes, one of the rules officials, “Can I just give this to him?” essentially saying, I con cede the tournament to you. Hughes said no, he has to make this, and Yeung coolly placed the putt in the center of the cup to win. The entire St Andrews men’s golf team participated in the tournament, either as a member of the “A” team, the “B” team, or as an individual. The two teams had 7 members in the top 20: Yeung, Dronov, Ha, freshman Cory Fleck, coming in with 79-78 — 157, Boucher, who shot rounds of 78- 81 — 159, junior Jon Hermanson with 80-79—159, and Bell. Other finishers for the Knights included Williams (80-81 — 161), freshman Matt Wilson (80-86-166), fresh man David Watson (87-84—171), sophomore Peter Galan (87-87— 174), freshman Jlebel Kennedy (94.89—183), and freshman Ben Morrissey (96-93—189). The overall top 5 for the team tourna ment was rounded out by Edward Waters College, who tied the Knights “B”-squadders for third with a two day total of 630, and Newberry College, two shots behind at 632. The top five indi viduals were Yeung, Dronov, Dion Sirrianni from Lees-McRae College (73-76-149), Brian Phillips from Newberry (77-73— 150) and James Camrite from Queens (77-75—152).
