^^The Lance St. Andrews Welcomes New Dean Matt Stucke Assistant Editor Upon completion of the 2003- 2004 academic year, James Kridler took over the position of Dean of Students from Cynthia Robinson. Robinson has now moved to assume the administrative position of Director of Admissions. Kridler has been a Dean of Studentsatthreeschools(Kalamazoo of Students College, Alma College, and Bard College) prior to St. Andrews. He held the position of Residence Hall Director at two other universities (State University of New York and Earlham College) as well as other important positions. Kridler obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Earlham College. He received his Master of Divinity in Counseling from Earlham igrrniHH School of Religion. Kridler then received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. At each school where Kridler has been an administrator, he has strived “to have a good working relationship with the local police and community leaders.” In Kridlers first year at St. Andrews, he wants to get to know the history and peculiarities that make the school unique. This is a new section in the news paper, where Student Government will inform you about what we are involved with around campus and the issue that we are work ing to change and make better. St. Andrews is a one of a kind institu tion. SA was the first college in north Caroli na to have co-ed dorms and is a true trail-blazer stigma. What SA does the almost no other in stitution anywhere has students on all faculty committees, so every thing that goes to vote and the into policy here on campus somewhere a current student voted on it at the time of the decision making pro cess. You can see that this task is not easy, and we still have a hand full of positions to fill, we just as you would like the best people for the job. So far this year we have formed a new club, the ‘Food Adviso ry Committee’ chaired by Jennifer Burns: Jennifer is a senior this year and if you would like to give your input for FAC contaa Jen nifer at (5450). Cur rently we are working to appoint student representatives to posi tions around campus and positions involved within the faculty. To all those with bugs, the school ‘bug bombs’ every dorm at winter break and summer break. The bugs have been driven back inside due to the humidity. The humidity is normal, just this year it is above average, courtesy of the hurricane season. The school cannot come in and spray again, for a few reasons; 1) the chemicals need time to sit and then dissipate, so time is needed to render the dorms safe for humans, just like you cannot be in your house when the Ter- New Facility @ SAPC Fill Ricardi Staff Writer You may bave noticed some new faces around campus and in the classroom, and it isn’t just new students. This year, St. Andrews welcomes over 15 new faculty and staff members. We took this opportunity to get to know them a little better so that you can too. Kristina Key Assistant Professor of English BA, John Brown University, 1994 Ma, University ofTulsa, 1996 Ph.D. University of La at Lafayette, 2003 loves horses and the myriad chances for recreational activities. Wliat do you hope to accomplish while here? Combs says that other then continuing to teach and shake things up, that he would like to get a cycling club started. His eventual goal woiUd be to have a college bike team that could compete. He would also like to incorporate fund raising classes into certain programs which could help the school raise money and also be of use to students later in life. Aside from these goals Mr. Combs would like to encourage us all to live a healthy lifestyle, eat well, and exercise. Why did you choose St.Andrews? Professor Key answered that they chose her as well. She was also lucky enough to attend a small liberal arts school and she says it help'to shape her life. Key believes that this is a great environment for learning and enjoys the emphasis on relationships and the sense of community at St.Andrews. What do you hope to accomplish while here? Key hopes to help improve the English department and to become a trusted teacher and member of the community. She also thinks it is important to help students in class figure out what they want from school and help them attain it. Gregory Combs Instruaor in Sports Management B.S., Eastern Illinois University, 1984 M.A., Ed.U., University of Northern Colorado, 1997,1999 Why did you choose St.Andrews? Mr. Combs responded that he had a great chance to teach a class that he enjoys. Here at SA he has a chance to integrate athletics and sports management. He believes that St.Andrews is full of opportunities for people who like spons. He also thinks there is a great environment here. Thomas Dickey Assistant Professor of Economics. BS, Oklahoma State University, 1994 MA, Michigan State University, 1974 M.S., Michigan State University, 1974 Ph.D., Michigan State University, 1980 Why did you choose St.Andrews? Professor Dickey replied that it was very simple. He was seeking a college that offered this type of Liberal Arts orientation. What do you hope to accomplish while here? He would like to continue to teach and contribute to the development of students, and the development of SA in any way he can. He also commented that he would like to see more study aboard programs.
