' Welcome to St. Andrews Presbyterian College Page 4 of 4 Margaret Houston By Daniel Pinsker Margaret Houston (center) Oct. 17,1944-Feb. 9 2006 Margaret Snow Houston will forever be remembered as a good friend, colleague, and professor to the St. Andrews community. Those that know her will remember her for her wonderful character, personality, and work ethic. She had traveled to many different places in her life: throughout Latin America, most notably to the Southwestern Mexican state of Oaxaca, on archeological excavations, and during her last semester, was Director of the Indian Museum of the Carolinas in Laurinburg, and had hosted a archeological excavation. Those that know her — her friends and her colleagues — have many memories of Professor Houston, memories that will always remain in our thoughts and minds in remembering a wonderful person. Outside of class, she was a good friend, a wonderful person to talk with on any topic that came to mind, and was helpfiil when it concerned class woric. As a student in her People’s of Latin America class, I remember Margaret Houston as a professor and as a friend, for her humor and knack for venturing off the daily subject to tell us about her adventures in Latin America, and of course, those that took place in Oaxaca. Outside of class we talked about traveling to Latin America and points elsewhere, American baseball, and liberal politics. Those who had the chance to work with her, have class with her, and socialize with her outside of class will remember a wonderful woman who really helped brighten the day with her character and personality. We, as a community, all send our condolences to her family and as people, we are honored to have had the chance to live and work with such a wonderful person and educator. Margaret’s road in life, which started in Wisconsin and ended in North Carolina, is full of happiness, joy, and achievement of goals. Thank you Margaret for the wisdom that you’ve taught us, for making us laugh and socializing with us, and for the wonderful memories you gave us to remember you by. God Bless. http;//www.sapc.edu/studentlife/club/The%20Lance.php 10/5/2006
