CSU Students Attend the Montreat Collegiate Conference
Lyndsey McCall
Just before classes started
back on January 4th-7tb some of our
students attended the Montreat Col
legiate Conference. The theme was
“Searching for God Knows What,”
which was named after the speaker,
Donald Miller’s book. The Montreat
staff was extremely impressed with
the attendance of over 600 college
students. Samuel Hemingway TII,
Lydia Bravard and I spent the beauti
ful weekend up in the mountains of
Montreat,North Carolina withagroup
from the Coastal Carolina Presbytery.
During the conference we praised
God through music and worship ser
vices, we took part in several differ
ent workshops, listened to the concert
artist of Jonathan Kingham, partici
pated in Q&A discussion of accep
tance and education of world reli
gions and heard from the well known
author Donald Miller. The overall
weekend was fantastic! Personally,
I enjoyed spending quality time with
Sam, Lydia and 6 other Presbytery
collegiates. Most the conference
presented heavy topics of discus
sion and it encouraged our group to
have these conversations in and out

motte led a workshop on mission in
the world. Not even noticing that St.
Andrews students were in attendance;
David spoke very highly of our small
private college that changes lives
because of its program that supports
students with disabilities. Those that
were in his workshop, made sure to
pass along the message that David
Lamotte mentioned our school and
that we should be very proud. This
conference was even better than I had

Getting involved and
being active on campus is a
great way to lower stress lev
els and to experience what St.
Andrews has to offer. While
classes can keep us busy, it is
important to become involved
with other activities on cam
pus and to meet other stu
dents and individuals within
the Laurinburg community.
So, what is new on cam
pus? Dean Batten can answer
this question, “Jen Bruner
has put together some great
new events for this semester.
One that I am particularly
excited about is called the
Traveler’s Series. She has
weekend trips plarmed to
see the Monet exhibit at the
North Carolina Museum of
Art in Raleigh, outlet shop
ping and dinner at Hard
Rock in Myrtle Beach, hik
ing at Morrow Mountain and
a trip to the Imax Theatre in
the Triangle.” Students will
also be able to attend Speak
er Series at the University of
North Carolina at Pembroke.
