St. Andrews Men’s Lacrosse Starts Spring 2007 Season Matt Stucke The St. Andrews Men’s La crosse team played their season opener on February 17, 2007. The Knights finished the 2006 season with an overall record of 8-7 and a 7-2 record in the Deep South Conference. This year, they will be participat ing in the reformed Carolinas- Virginias Athletic Conference. Saint Andrews was ranked as the ninth best team in the nation by Lacrosse magazine. They were picked 2nd in a pre-sea son CVAC poll. Limestone, the CVAC preseason favorite, was ranked sixth nationally. The knights are lead by head coach Michael Lawson. They are returning eight seniors this year, providing a solid core of experience. This years team is “more mature” than in the past and “the biggest team the school has ever had”, stated Lawson. He also asserted that they have a “talented group of freshmen that each bring a different piece of the puzzle.” This years cap tains are Zach Mryncza, Dan Hartzell, Sean Todd, and Tom Watt. This year “every game is a key game” with a schedule that is “extremely competitive out of region”, says Lawson. The goal of the St. An drews lacrosse team, says Law son, is to “win a national champi onship” and “acquire recognition for academics. We want to have the highest percent of GPA” of any sports team on campus. He seeks to “attract high quality student athletes.” Lawson admits, most of his players are “probably not going to make a living with a lacrosse stick. They need a strong foundation so they can be successful when they leave this place.” St. Andrews will be hosting the CVAC tournament this year, starting on April, 20, 2007. Lawson urges the continued support of the St. Andrews student body, especially at the CVAC .... . , St. Andrews Men s Lacrosse Team. tournament. Havmg the support of the Pi^tMr^ounesy of Rooney Coffman students is big. It is a bigger piece than I think people realize.” It is tiiroiigh ' the support of the students that the con tinued success of the team is made pos sible. Home games will be on February 17 and 28 and March 14,17,21,and 25. »b 'I I.
