By Alice V-Z Harrison ’12 Editor As pan of our feedback for this issue of The Lance, stu dents (and recent grads) not only responded to the standard survey, but they also described a bit of their unique summer experiences. A few of them were even kind enough to send photographs Here’s some of our fevorites: “So far for the summer of 2011 I have been working in a dining room at an elderly community called. The Pines. I also picked up another job waitressing at a sports bar called, Pippa's Cafe. Along with work I have gone on a couple fam ily vacations. First to the mountains, where we took the horses for fun in the river and on the trails. Next to the beach for some fiin in the ocean, and finally, to Illinois for my grandma's 80th birthday!” --Brittany Powell, Class of 2013, 7/5/11 “My summer during post-grad life has consisted of going to Emerald Isle, N.C., for the Memorial Day holiday and for about a week during the month of June with my grand parents. I will also be going back to the beach with my grandparents for the 4th of July holiday. This stmimer I have also had a chance to see my cousins and go to Raleigh, N.C., to visit my aunt. On June 21st, my family and I celebrated my grandmother's 70th birthday. In the meantime, I revised my r&um^ and got tips on cover letter writing. I have been applying for numerous jobs along my psychology major and am waiting on calls for interviews.” '-Stephanie Hooks, Class of 2011, 6/23/11 “I've been working on an internship at Scotland Memorial Hospital and it's been a great experience. It will help with experience in getting into medical school and I think working in the surgical department will help me as a surgeon.” --Ceaira Walker Griffin, Class of 2012, 6/21/11 “So far...my summer as been crazy because of...a speeding ticket, getting my ear pierced, watching my mother's ducks and geese, riding my horses, and all sorts of other random (See Summer, P^e 6) Graduates Liz Dulski ’11 on Beastie, and Katherine Lau^lin ’10 on Sockie, and HoUy Hickman ’14 on Simon in the Neuse River. Students, Alumni, Horses Travel to Camp Seafarer By Holly Hickman ’14 Contributor Camp Seaferer for Girls, in Arapahoe, NC is contracted with St. Andrews for the use of 24 of their horses every sum mer for a riding lesson program. St. Andrews Alumni Katherine Laughlin ’10 and Liz Dulksi ’11 served as Director and Barn manager respectively this summer. Current students Kimmy Simonson ’12, Andrew Michael ’12, and Holly Hickman ’14 worked as riding instructors. Several fim things that happened at camp this year, includ ing river rides, game days, and a handfiil of brilliantly creative skits and theme da)^. The horseback riding staff put on such interesting days as 70's day, Gone with the Wind day. Wizard of Oz day, and Slip'n'Slide day. Horses, staff, and campers made many happy memories full of laughter, and can't wait do to it all again next summer. NEW AT THE LIBRARY - JUST FOR YOU! Check out a LAPTOP to use in the LIBRARY.
