The Lance June > August 2011 Page 7 PEOPLE SAPC Welcomes New Student Activities Coordinator Q&A with Jennifer Roberts Q.] Would you mind telling The Lance little bit about yourself, such as where you come from and some (im facts about you? A.] I was born in Alabama and lived in Georgia and Pennsylvania as a young child, but I consider myself to be “from” Toms River, New Jersey which is where I lived most of my life. I have a horse named TC that I had here with me when I was a student. My sister has two little girls who are awesome little people and I love spending time with them. When I grow up I want to be a writer. I have three novels in progress one of which actually deals with some aspects of my time here as a student. I have also tried my hand at screenwriring and have played around with writing a musical. I am obsessed with all things Glee and not embarrassed to admit it. I am also a vampire nut (books, movies, etc.). I play the piano, cello, and guitar, but none of them particularly well. I like to think that what I lack in skill I make up for with enthusiasm. And I love karaoke. Q.] So, you’re a 'St. Android' of the class of 2000. How did you find St. Andrews in the first place, what was your major, and how does it feel to be back? A.] I had already attended three other schools by the time I came to visit St. Andrews. I had trouble finding the right fit for me. I came to St. Andrews as an excuse to visit a friend who lived nearby under the guise to looking at a new college to transfer to. Something about St. Andrews just felt right even though it was Winter Break when I vis ited and there wasn’t much going on. h turned out that a friend from my Freshman year of college was transfer ring to St. Andrews as well and so I lucked out and had a roommate and friend I already knew. I think that helped ease the transfer transition. Being back here has been fiin and a lit- de chaotic so for. It's brought back a lot of really fun memories. Q.] Do you notice any difference between student life 11 years ago ver sus student life now? A.] I’m not sure that student life ever really changes all that much. I think that what changes is the perspective of the person examining it. Things look different on the outside than they do on the inside. I’ve only been here for a cou ple of weeks now, but I’d say that things are a lot like how I remember them. There’s a lot more technology. I was just telling a story about Spring Break and how I had to stop at a gas station to use a pay phone and had to use a road adas to figiu-e out where we were going. That’s definitely different. Q.] What was your fiivorite part about being a student at St. Andrews? If you can, tell us a little about what you enjoyed doing the most (aside from studying of course, ha ha!) as a student here? A.] I came to St. Andrews for the Equestrian Program so of course one of the things that I really enjoyed during my time as a student was riding (Satchmo was my favorite equine buddy). But I think that the part of my St. Andrews experience that meant the most to me was the opportunity to explore and share parts of me that I usu ally kept to myself. I made wonderful friends who I still remain in contact with. I often tell people that my time at St. Andrews was a litde like being in The Breakfast Club only there was never that point where the diverse group of friends part ways and go back their usual cliques. Q.] What kind of a student were you — the happy-go-lucky kind, the worrywart kind, the procrastinator — cramming kind, or were you some other kind? A.] I should say that I was a diligent student who always put schoolwork first, but I have to admit that I was a bit of a procrastinator. I was a pretty good student, but I tended to wait until the last minute to do most of my work. I pulled a lot of all-nighters. Q.] Well, whatever kind of student you were, chances are you were well acquainted with student afiairs — par ticularly the Student Activities Coordinator, since that person is (See Jennifer, Page 8) **Think Globally, Act Locally”
