Hopefully it will Contest for a Cause Update Alice YZ Harrison ’12 Editor In the June — August edition of The Lance, you were all informed that there were exciting things to happen with the Contest for a Cause. Well, nothing good is easy — or so it seems. It has been said that the more difficult something is to accomplish, the more rewarding that accomplish ment will be. So, yes, there are big plans — big, big plans - associated with Contest for a Cause, but you will just have to wait and see what they are. Details are still being worked out, but I can assure you, they are in the works. One thing I can tell you though, the more Contest for a Cause branches out, the more usefiJ it wiU be. So, there are some community partner ships planned, as well as some creative collaborations, etc. all for the good of education and community. More to come, as details are made available. I later was approached by WLNC's owner Gary Gallman to be the sideline reporter, which meant that I would join Richie and the voice of the fighting scots, Kenny Fore. Once I heard that Coach Schueler was involved I knew we would put out a wonderful product for the communi ty. Not only do we broadcast the foot ball games, we have our own live Satur day morning show called Scots Sports Saturday. "Every Saturday during our last seg ment we do St. Andrews sports and through our affiliations with St. Andrews we are able to provide free advertisement for the college," Schueler says. With both of us living in Scodand County and working at St. Andrews, I knew it would be a great way to bridge the gap between the community and our University and help inform the community about whats going on at St. "Think Globally, Act Locally” ings through out the year, and with us calling games on Friday nights, it helps keep St. Andrews on the minds of peo ple around the county," Schueler said. On our Saturday show, each week we have a guest from around the commu nity come on to give us their input. This year so far we have had the Knights wrestling coach Joe Baranik and Volleyball coach Angela Franke as our guest. In the coming months we will have numerous players and coaches from around the Knights Athletic program on our show. "I feel this is a way that I can give back to the Laurinburg community, as well as the St. 7\ndrews commimity in a way that nobody else can,"Schueler says. The Laurinburg community has been hit hard the past ten years by companies leaving our county. Richie and I have seen what football has done the past nine weeks to bring a community together.
