Knowing that prayer is the great source of strength in a Christian’s life, ihey have want ed a quiet place set apart for communion with God. Rich as our fellowship with other Christ ians may be,, there come times when each of us wants to be alone to think over problems arid to draw strength from the reservoir of the Holy Spirit. The auditorium is not a suit able place; moreover, the little room in the balcony did not prove successful as a prayer room; Watkins Hall suffers from the noise around it. Girls for many years have dreamed of a place apart, away from the bustle of activity and noise. This dream will soon come to be realized in the prayer chapel to be erected by the students this year on our campus. Undertaken as project of the Christian Association, the work i on the chapel will be done in large part by the girls themselves To Send Literary Work To Arts Fcrum To the Tenth Annual Arts For um to be held in Greensboro March 19th to 21st, entries from ed by the USCC. News of Evelyn’s departure came to us as quite a blow, and we miss her around the campus. The last report was that she was doing very well, and that she will soon return to the fold. O- ^— Spiritual Enrichment Week Planned In Feb. In February we will have on our campus for three days Dr. John McMullen of Union Theo logical Seminary, Richmond, Vir ginia. Dr. McMullen is one of the outstanding men of the Pres byterian church, U. Three topics taken up in the World Struggle group were: Christian concept of his tory; the responsibility of the Christian in politics; causes for the world disorder; communism; what our generation can do for Christ in the world struggle. Another important phase of the conference was the study of the First Letter of John. We divid ed into groups of ten which met every night for two hours. All work and no play? Never! The time from 9:30 p. m. until 11:00 p. m. was set aside for re creation—singing, folk dancing. On New Year’s Eve we trudged across the snow-covered campus to the Christian Center. Each delegate had been requested to wear a hat of his own creation. First prize was won by a funda mentalist ‘bound by the Bible.” The highlight of the week was the Night Watch Service on New Year’s Eve. It was conducted by foreign student, with special music by the Conference Choir. The ser mon on repentence was deliver ed by a Yale Divinity student from Norway, Scerre Smodahl. Our studies made us realize the res ponsibility of the Christian Stu- ent to study so as to be aware of the world situation and our part in it. their mission is the farthest west station in Brazil. Mrs. Syderstricker, a bub bling personality, made many of us consider the innumerable op portunities which we have around us, and yet, we waste them so flippantly. Her vesper talk was of special interest to us, for she told several, stories of persons with whom she has worked. As she told the stories, we felt that we, too, had worked with and known these people. On Friday, January 10, Mrs. Sydenstricker talked to the en tire student body, faculty, and staff at the daily Chapel service. Here she told of some of the ob stacles which confront the people of Brazil as they grope for the Truth. The people of America, perhaps, present the most baf fling problem of all, for the Bra zilians believe this to be Chrit- ian America and yet they read endless accounts of crime and unrest in these United States. We owe a great deal to these missionaries, and we owe a great deal to ourselves, whom we are cheating. « The student Body enjoyed hav ing Mrs. Sydenstricker on the campus and extend to her best wishes on her return to Brazil.
