PAGE 4 THE SKIRL MARCH 16, 1954 Campus Clubs And Capers By Audrey Milligan It seems that the Writers’ Club is always doing creative and con structive things. At, the last meet ing several manuscripts were read. An extra meeting is being planned in which the members will listen to music from the different periods of history and write stories or poems centered around the music they hear. They plan to use art in the same way. This sounds very interesting. Let us hear more about these plans, g’ris! The Virginia Club, which has iust been organized this year and which is made up of girls from the Old Dominion State, is get ting right down to business now. At the last regular meeting of the year they made plans, big plans, for next year. They have as their project to try to encourage more Virginia girls to come to Flossie I'.Iac and to write letters to those who already have in applications. | For their last get-together of the year the girls are planning a hike to Watson’s Lake and wei- ner roast there on April 2. Mrs. McCain found out that the girls would like to have a Virginia paper in the reading room, so she ordered the Rich mond Times Dispatch for them. The girls appreciate this very much, Mrs. McCain! hearts longing to go to Paris! Well, maybe some day — right, girls? The FMC Business Students’ Club, under the leadership of Doris Bowles, President, and the faculty advisors, has enjoyed a year of activities, both entertain ing and informative. At the regular monthly meet ings, outside speakers have given the true picture of practicing what the members - are now learning in their classes day by day. Other meetings have featur ed instructional films on business etiquette and secretarial practices while still others have been per iods of planning activities such as the traditional club tea which is to be held on April 10 in the college parlors. Newcomers to the business fac ulty this year are Miss Lois Fra zier and Mr. Leslie M. Venters. Miss Frazier, Head of the De partment, is a graduate of W.C. and is now State Representative to the Southern Business Educa tion Association. Mr. Venters is a graduate of East Carolina and is now Head of the Red Springs j High School Business Department in addition to his position as as sistant professor here. Both hold masters’ degrees and are out standing teachers in the field of business education. 0 Auction Of Privileges Held March 10 The various other privileges which were sold were sleeping in Flora Macdonald’s bed in the guest room, dating until eleven o’clock on Friday night, an extra Sunday away from campus, an extra night out, closing the parlor doors while dating, an extra Chapel cut, sleeping through breakfast, dating' in Mrs. Mc Cain’s parlor, and yelling in the library. 0 Personality Profile By Dot Hamiliton The Math Club, held its regular meeting Friday, March 12. Betty Jean Gilliland and Lucille Gra ham were in charge of the pro gram. They presented a very in teresting and challenging program entitled “What’s Wrong With School Arithmetic?” That is really something to think about, especially for those of us who are planning to teach. The French Club met on Mon day afternoon, March 15. A nom inating committee was appointed to nominate new officers for next year. The program consisted of a talk by Miss Doris Hawes on some of her experiences in Paris. The event was sponsored by the Christian Association Cabinet and the Stu dent Council. Patsy Teer and Betty Lou Lamb served as auc- tioneei;s. The highest bidding was done by Mildred Spillman and Carolyn Musselwhite who paid $3.54 and $3.45, respectively, for an extra week end. Other high bidding was done by Joan Hester for maid service by Ellen Williams and Shirley Fitzgerald and Mr. Decker for maid service by Mary Lisle Tucker and Dee Davis. “G” was the pianist of Epsilon Chi “S” too has ‘EX’ for her cry! “G” played for Choral Club all four years. . . . “S” is its president; both deserve cheers.- Both are in St. Cecelia Music Club. . . . Yes, for their lives music is the hub. Both have been Prayer Band Leaders too— On the Cabinet “S” saw the mu sic through. “G” played tennis* went to sum mer school. . . . Gave a joint recital, keeping cal mand cool. “S” was chairman of the Student Council dance. . . . Her beauty as a marshal did all entrance. Piano is the major of talented “G”. ... Her senior recital was given splendidly. When she played Grieg’s Concer to in A Minor, It couldn’t possibly have been played any finer! Organ is the major of talented “S”. . . . Her senior recital is approaching —and yes. I’ll attend, for like “G’s”, it will be great. . . . These music majors we appre ciated! In Wilmington and Statesville these two Nancy’s live. . . .
