Mrs. Fletcher started with this
statement, “There was something
about Flora Macdonald that
made me write a book.” She
“saw her as a woman who was
waiting, waiting, waiting.” This
became the basis for the story in
The Scotswoman, her latest nov

Mrs. Fletchcr went over to Scot

order to get her research materi

there.
In an interview Mrs. Fletcher
revealed that it took two years
to write a novel — one year
for research and one year for
the writing. She has completed
and published nine novels. Her
first two were stories concern
ing Africa and the next seven
constitute her Carolina series.
She thinks that her next novel
will be on Africa, based on ma

on a trip to Africa.
Mrs. Fletcher was accompani
