GETS AIR base; FACILITIES SCOTTES DEADLOCK V;iTH FAVORED GARDKE1-’'JEB3 >jc ^ 9{c In a game featured by a wet ball and a muddy field, the Scottics dead locked v/ith a favored Gardner-’Yebb Eleven 13-13; before a small crowd of chilled.fans at Llitchell Field in Shelby Saturday afternoon. Early in the first period the Scots found themselves on the short end of a 7-0 acore, after Smith's aerial to Sher rill carried for 62 yards to the Scots 8 yard line. On the next running play Arnvt found a hole in the Scots forward wall and pushed into pay territory''. Sherril converted to give G-W a 7-0 lead. After a brief exchange of punts, Knox, in the most spectacular play of the game, gathered in Black's punt on his ovm 15 and raced 85 yards down the field for a tally. Hodges‘'kicked the point and the half ended 7-7. In the third quarter, with Frevatte and Knox leading the way, PJC hit pay dirt again. Knox climaxed a 54 yara sus tained* drive when he lugged the leather over from the one. Hodges kick missed and til* Scots lead 13-7. In the fourth quarter, after PJC had drawn successive holding penalties G-YJ" had the ball deep in PJC territory. Raines on a reverse picked up 25 yards and Austell bucked over to knot the count. Sherrill's attempt was blocked by Ornesby and the score remained 15-13. Jones, Ornesby, Vance, "silliams, and Bizzel were outstanding in the Scots fonvard Virall, and Powell, Horace and Robert Prevatte, Knox and Nickles wore outstanding in the backfield. The high light of the game was the sideshov/ put on by Baker, Harrison, Siceloff (the Russian) and Yates at half time. A cold driving rain started in the morning but little rain fell during the game despite the cold and foggy weather v/hich enshrouded IJitchell Stadium. The statistics tell the story. PJC rolled up 16 first downs to the Bull Dogs 5. PJC lost 95 yards by penalties and G*W lost 25. G’[ had the breaks and the Scotties didnH. It was the third tie for PJC and they closed the season with 3 ties, 4 wins, and one defeat. COLLEGE GIVEN Tf.A.A. PROPERTY , , J.I. Yates The War Assets Administration approved the transfer of the Laur- inburg-I!h.xton Air Base to Presby terian Junior College on Kov. 13, 1947. Senator Clyde B. Hoey and Representative J. Bayord Clark of the Seventh District were advised by the Army Department that the property would be transferred to the college. Included in the property which will go to the college.are 342 acres of land and a number of buildings. Negotations began on Jan. 18, 1947, bji- Dr. Louis C. LaMotte, Pres ident of P.J.C., and State Senator Edvjin Pate, Chairman of the. Board of Trustees, Senator Pate represented the college before the War Assets Ad ministration, Under the contract setting forth the -transfer of the property, the buildings and the property cannot be sold or conveyed for other than educa-* tional purposes for 25 years. In an interview. Dr. LaMotte stated, "We are glad that this decis ion has been reached. This will en»- able us to make more favorable use of the base facilities for married students and faculty. Furthermore, we will now be able to further develope the Flying and A & E School".
