Rousseau MEMBER Southern Interscholastic Publication Association The Big Question Elections for the student body representatives of Pres byterian Junior College for the school year of 1952-53 were held on April 29th, 1952 immediately after chapel. To say that the results followed the form of normal election proceedure is quite questionable, for it is possible that the manner in which the selections were made might have carried with them some degree of misunderstanding. A representative of the student board of electors an nounced before the student body the selections which they had made at previous meetings, and then called for any other nominations; however, none were brought forth. It is my opinion that none of the students who were selected had any faults, but nevertheless, we of the student body might have given these men a more lasting impression of the responsibil ity that we were bestowing upon them if they had witnessed and jJone through the trials and tribulations of campaigning agair.'.st a worthy opponent, in trying to secure a job which involves the feeling of so many people. In the past at PJC one of the most interesting weeks spent on the campus was during the “heated” campaign programs that were revolving among the students, but this year there will be none. It would be. most profitable if the leader of the elections for next year would present to the student body a list of qualified men at least one week before the time desig nated for nominations for the floor, and, in addition to this, establish a definite date for nominations so that every mem ber might make it a point to attend the meeting in order to express his opinions. Regardless of the misunderstanding that might have arisen from this year’s selection of officers, we of the staff of the SANDSPUR and all of its affiliations extend to the new officers our most sincere best wishes and hopes for an ex cellent organization for next year. Expect Ba^ipe Momentarily DOSTER BROCK At the beginning of the second semester of this school year, everyone here at P.J.C. was no ticing the unusual amount of hus tle which the staff of the Bagpipe ,was making in its effort to send the manuscript to the printer. The great day came in the late afternoon of February 28th. The SANDSPUR has just re ceived notification from the edi tor of this year’s book, that its dis tribution will occur in the next couple of weeks, probably before exams begin. There was no general theme set forth in the 51-52 edition of our college annual, but the editor Doster Brock, is hoping that this publication will afford for the students here a happy and last ing outlook on the life which they spent while attending P. J.C. The main factor which the staff of the Bagpipe counted on was the sincere co-ojfe’artiOn of the stud ent body in its goal to give to the student body the best “books” that they had ever had, and indi cations are that the student body, was most gracious and co-opera tive in its help. It was due to the earnest and hard work which Brock, and Fos ter Edwards spent that will make this book such a success, and the editors and the staff of the SANDSPUR congratulate o ur “brother publication” with Work Well Done. Welker To Spend Summer In France For all of those students who have been slaving away at French this year, and asking that same ole question, “Will this mess do me any good?” might find the an swer in joining our notable French Professor Mr. John Welker in his trip to the Riviera country this summer. Not too many weeks from now Mr. Welker will be leaving the United States ’ from Montreal, Canada, for a trip which will last throughout the summer months in the wonderful land of France! June 19th is the tentative date which has been set for the de parture of Mr. Welker and his group of American students. The persons who will be accompany ing him on his travels will be a contingent of French majors from senior colleges throughout Amer ica, who will be witnessing 'for the first time hte homeland fo the language which they are studying. Mr. Welker has indicated that the purpose of the trip is “to study and observe the French way of life as well as the various in stitutions and organizations of the country, for the purpose of estab lishing international understand ing.” Each member of the group will reside with a French family for three weeks in one of the prov inces of France; five weeks will be spent in traveling throughout the land, and the final week will be spent in the internatoinally famous city of Paris. Whether Mr. Welker will visit Gay Paree will probably be up to the discretion of his very fine wife, but, regardless of her de cision on this matter, the students of P.J.C. most heartedly send to Mr. Welker and his group the very best of luck and “bon voyage.” .__0 Support The Scotties McNAIR’S Department Store Laurinburg, N.
