Thursday night, Dec. 30, the annual Christmas
tree and social vs^as held in Moore Hall. At seven
o’clock the lights were turned off in the auditorium
and the Glee Club in the rear hall sang “Silent
Night.” Immediately thereafter the singers, each
with a lighted candle, marched in singing “Hark
the Herald Angels Sing.” There followed many
Christmas songs and a reading, “The Night Before
Christmas,” by Mayola Terry. The poem was de
lightfully rendered with a musical accompaniment
played by Mrs. J. W. Brown.

A great deal of interest centered around the beau
tifully decorated and heavily laden tree. After
Santa Claus had presented the gifts a social hour
was enjoyed. The entire program was directed by
Mrs. J. W. Brown.

Those who attended the comedy-drama, “The
Heart Cry,” which was presented in the Rich Square
auditorium on Thursday night, were thrilled with
the excellent playing of the students of the State
Normal Junior class, Elizabeth City. The play was
a fast moving drama of mother-love, pathos and
comedy which ended in an unexpected climax. A
large audience enjoyed this special feature directed
by Misses King and Lewis. Many persons from
Weldon, Jackson, Conway, Ahoskie and Roxobel at
tended.

The basketball game played Thursday, Nov. 29th,
between the High School and the Junior Normals
was very interesting. The score was 4-3 in favor
of the Juniors. The winning team challenged the
Senior Normal team for a game at 2:30 p. m., which
was also a very interesting one. During the first
half the score was 4-0 in favor of the Seniors. At
the beginning of the second half the Juniors
awakened and began to creep up. On the last half
the score was 6-6. The time expired and left both
teams in a tie. The tie was played off. One of the
Juniors having been unguarded the tie wa seasily
broken thus making the score of the game 8-6 in
favor of the Juniors.
