First prize, Donnie Hill; second prize, Louise Maultsby; third prize, Araminta Ransome. « # * Thursday night, Dec. 30, the annual Christmas tree and social vs^as held in Moore Hall. At seven o’clock the lights were turned off in the auditorium and the Glee Club in the rear hall sang “Silent Night.” Immediately thereafter the singers, each with a lighted candle, marched in singing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” There followed many Christmas songs and a reading, “The Night Before Christmas,” by Mayola Terry. The poem was de lightfully rendered with a musical accompaniment played by Mrs. J. W. Brown. * ^ * A great deal of interest centered around the beau tifully decorated and heavily laden tree. After Santa Claus had presented the gifts a social hour was enjoyed. The entire program was directed by Mrs. J. W. Brown. m r, * Those who attended the comedy-drama, “The Heart Cry,” which was presented in the Rich Square auditorium on Thursday night, were thrilled with the excellent playing of the students of the State Normal Junior class, Elizabeth City. The play was a fast moving drama of mother-love, pathos and comedy which ended in an unexpected climax. A large audience enjoyed this special feature directed by Misses King and Lewis. Many persons from Weldon, Jackson, Conway, Ahoskie and Roxobel at tended. Mary Louther, Reporter. The basketball game played Thursday, Nov. 29th, between the High School and the Junior Normals was very interesting. The score was 4-3 in favor of the Juniors. The winning team challenged the Senior Normal team for a game at 2:30 p. m., which was also a very interesting one. During the first half the score was 4-0 in favor of the Seniors. At the beginning of the second half the Juniors awakened and began to creep up. On the last half the score was 6-6. The time expired and left both teams in a tie. The tie was played off. One of the Juniors having been unguarded the tie wa seasily broken thus making the score of the game 8-6 in favor of the Juniors.
