Page Four THE S. N. S. MESSENGER December, 1937, STATE NORMAL SCHOOL CLUBS TOUJOURS AMIES This is another, to be found in the list of clubs on our campus. The fact that it has such a large membership must prove that it Is both interesting and he pful. Young ladies! When thinking seriously of joining some c.ub, please remember to take this one into consideration. President, Sallie Arrington; Secretary, Gladys Banks; Spon sor, Mrs. Haley. THE B NATURAL These young ladies have start ed off with the right spirit; al ready they have had charge of prayer meeting and have given a HaLoween party; of course we un derstand that their plans are quite numerous. Keep up the good work where there’s interest there’s plenty ac complished. President, Catherine Turner; Secretary, Catherine Hunter; Sponsor, Miss Evelyn Johnson. THE MALE GLEE CLUB The male club began the year by adding several new students to its roll. The Glee club immediate ly began preparing for a tour. The members of the Glee club realized that such an organization was new to the public and that they had to win a reputation for themselves. They therefore, buck led down to hard work so that they might do themselves and the school credit when they left the school. The glee club left the campus on Monday morning, Nov. 29, 1937 at 9 a. m., and gave a reci.al at Edenton at 11 a. m. FYom there it went to Williamston where a recital was given that night, the members remaining overnight there. The first stop Tuesday morning was at Plymouth when after the recital the faculty mem bers served the giee club lunch. Tuesday night found the glee club at Washington. Wednesday was the hardest day of all. A recital was given at Greenville at 10 a. m., one at Farmville at 2 p. m., a broadcast was given over sta tion W. E. E. D., in Rocky Mount at 5 o’clock, and a recital that evening at the Booker T. Wash ington High School in Rocky Mount. On Thursday a program was given at Wilson at 10 a. m. The club journeyed to Snow Hill for a program at 2 p. m., and rounded up the night at Kinston. Friday saw the club making only one stop and that at Smithfield for i.he campus which it reached a- bout 4 p. m. Thoughout the trip every member of the glee c'.ub boosted State Normal School and tried to encourage students to en ter the institution. New plans are already under way. I; is h^ped that another tour will be undertaken in the spring. The members of the glee club feel hat because of the experience gained on the fall trip the organ ization will steadily improve and be able to give better programs. THE WOMANS GLEE CLUB The Womans Glee Club under the direction of Miss E. A. John son is progressing rapidly though the majority of the members are new. During the past quar er the Glee Club has been responsibe for the music during Sunday School periods. The Negro spirituals seem to be favorites of the club. They are also singing quite a number of songs arranged by the famous Hall Johnson Choir. These synco pated songs seem to make a strong appeal to the audience. Miss Johnson works untiringly in order that the Glee Club mighL reach greater heights. The Glee Club is planning great things for the future. These things will come to light within the next few months. Any young women who are in terested in music and would like :o become members of this or ganization should see Miss E. A. Johnson at once. President, E.eanor Swain; Sec retary, Ezell Johnson; Director, Miss E. A. Johnson. THE MALE GLEE CLUB The Male Glee Club started its second year of work under the direction of Mr. Leon DeKalb. Seventeen members from the pre vious year answered the first call to practiced. Thirteen new mem bers were added making the or- ganiza.ion thirty strong. The Glee Club immediately started on a long series of hard drills and practices in prepara tion for a tour of Eastern North Carolina and for broadcasts over different stations. After three months of hard work the Glee Club left S. N. S. campus November 29, on its tour and returned December 3rd. The Male Glee Club expects to have a full and busy year.
