Last summer many ot our gradu ates continued their studies at vari ous universities. Those attending New York University are Misses Willie Overton and Lula Garrett; Columbia Uni\ersity, Misses Odessa Collins, Juanit Exiuu and Mrs. Katherine Tur Juanita Exiun, and Mrs. Katherine Turner Watson; Atlanta University, Mrs. Lillian Elliot Fox. Miss Clara Griffin, Messrs. Earney Moore and John B. Wilson are now studying at Columbia University, like wise Mr. Donald G. Brandon, a for mer -member ot the State Teachers College faculty is also studying at Co lumbia University. Mrs. Sallie Jones Spooner, a gradu ate of the class of 1942, is teaching in the New ’^’ork City school system. Mrs. Evelyn Newsome Faulcon of Ahoskie, N. C., is the proud mother of a baby girl born September 2. Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Lewis an nounce the marriage of their sister, Daisy Beatrice Keys to Mr. Raymond Augustus Morris, AVednesday, August 30, 1944 at Greenville, N. C. Miss Lillian E. Turner and Mr. Naoman McMillian, class of 1944, have announnced their marriage. • Intramural Softball Tourney The Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen will always remember that yellow is a sign of danger too, because the Seniors kept on the yellow and won the championship each time whereas their o|3|)onents wore red and lowered its symbol. The games and scores were: Game No. 1 Scores Seniors 6 Juniors 2 Game No. 2 Scores Seniors 20 Freshmen 7 Game No. 3 Scores Seniors 14 Sophomores 6 J he game between the Sophomores and Seniors is one that W'ill be long remembered because it was the tight est game j^layed. 44iis was the only game that at one of the endings the score ^vas a tie. From that time on, the Seniors did not give the Sopho mores chance to make another home riur. First Softball Game of Year Friday, October 6, 1944 at 4:00 p. ra., the Senior-Yellows and Junior- Reds played a thrilling softl^all game, with ]\Ir. E. W. Jones as umpire. At the end oi' the first inning the score was 0-0 with the Yellows and Reds wide awake. It was in the fourth inning that the Yellows began scoring and scored until the sixth, when the Reds made a score in the se\enth and last inning. MAUDE JONES SYKES, Secretary to the Ahimni 9 Births Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Jones are prond of their daughter, Cheryl Eliza beth, who was born on September 3, 1944 in Richmond County Llospital, Richmond, Va. Before her marriage, Mrs. Jones was Agnes Elizabeth Hol loway and a graduate of the class of ’39. Mr. Jones is a new member of the S. T. C. faculty. 9 Columnist Dorothy Thompson On the School Lunch Program Every single child could be given two hot meals every school day at the cost for actual food of 10 days of con ducting this war. If we could open the imaginations of our Government representatives, we would take hold of this problem of the American child in a big, worthy, American way. We would make the public school a real extension of the home. We would see to it that Holly wood made and distributed entertain ing but appropriate films just for chil dren and teen-age boys and girls. Sinclair; Recreation Committee, Evelyn Rich ardson. • The Choir The State 'I’eachers College A Ca- pella choir which was formerly a mixed group is now composed of wom en only. The choir consists of sixty-two mem bers of which the nrajority w'ere re cruited from the Freshman Class. This organization held its initial meeting September 22, 1944. The following officers were elected for the year of 1944-45: President, Flelen L. Joyner; Vice President, Lena L. Crandell; Secretary, Mary E. Skinrrer; Assistant Secretary, Thelma Taylor; Treasurer, Ida S. Winborne; Librarians, Vernett Mc Guire, Waline E. Qualls. Some of the plans for the year in clude a Christmas Cantata, an operet ta and the anniial May Festival, hon oring the Board of Trustees.
